Hi, I just wanted to know if I'm the only one experiencing this.

I have a Raptor 30 (I know, small heli - but it is my first heli) and I have come to the point where I can admit that I'm afraid (?) to fly it. I'm ok with spinning up the blades, but as soon as the skids leave the ground, my heart beat doubles, my heart moves to my throat, my legs start shaking and finally my hands too and I'm then forced to make a hard landing.

I recently bought a Walkera 36 (I know it's crap - didn't know this 2 months ago), funny thing is, I don't experience this at all. I can hover this 36 in my garden (which is slightly bigger than a single garage), no problem. Not even my heart beat raises.

Am I the only one experiencing this ? Any reason why the small heli is ok, but not the bigger one ? Any thoughts on this ?

That Raptor 30 is a great heli!!!!

My friend it's simply the adrinaline rush you feel and it time it will decrease. Enjoy it while you can... ebrace it. I still get that feeling to a degree everytime I spool up my E-620.

So at least it will decrease during time (good). How long does that take ?

I love my Raptor 30 V2. I will not sell that heli.

LOL its normal, once you get over the jitters you will find the Raptor much easier to fly, its bigger so its more stable and easier to see.

It is different for everyone. If you are lucky, it will never completely go away :D .

The Raptor 30 is a great heli to start with. I would suspect that the reason you are more nervous with it than the Walkera is that you treasure it more and don't want to damage it. You just don't feel the same way about the Walkera.

Yeah I still get the jitters, especially my leg. a bit but it took me about a year to not be kind of "scared" of crashing.

Days and days of sim time has boosted my confidence enough to know I can get out of almost any dumb thumb as log as I am 20+ feet off the ground.

Now-a-days I know I "probably" will not crash :D

I need to get a sim. :thinking

I love having Realflight. Last year there was no way I'd think of getting a heli where I live. There really isn't much for people flying them up here. Between this place, RCU, and G3, I'm confident that I can build, setup, and fly one. The simulator is great for practice and confidence building.

Also started with a Walkera (DF60).
Should have started different but have little regrets, learned a lot of it.

I know exactly what the adrenaline does to me, and it has nothing to do with (Heli :) )size in my case.
And have to say i like it a lot!
On one hand you wish you stayed calm, because in PhoenixRC I fly 500% better and more confident, even did some steady inverted and backward circles now, you name it.
On the other hand it also gives me a rush to fly my MT and makes me forget anything else, and that's cool :smokin: .
But every step I make IRL is a step I already passed long ago in the SIM.
I feel the rush, and try to stop my knees from shaking, once they start doing their thing, I take a small step back, before it reaches my fingertips.
A feeling i never have in a Sim.
Real life is not a SIM but it's nice your brain has been there (kind off) before.

You sound like you're like me. I think it's the fact that the larger helis just sound so tough. They command a lot of respect, and they'll "bite" if you don't respect 'em. With my Blade CP though.... I'll drive that thing into the ground and still walk away laughing.

Another thing....While I'm not hurting for cash I also can't help but see those $$$$ signs flash in front of my eyes everytime my T-rex 450 or 600 skids leave the ground. Keeps me humble I guess, and prevents those "Hey, watch this....." moments.

Thanks guys, I'm so glad to see I'm not alone. Had some family members laughing at me for getting the jitters.

I think part of my problem is the combination of the sound my woodies make and the sound of my engine screaming. The combination of the two sounds to me is very intimidating. It sounds like it can hurt you.

My little Walkera 36 sounds different. Doesn't sound like it can do you any harm (I know it can !)

Yes I do treasure my Raptor more, because I worked for it. Did extra work after hours. My Walkera didn't cost me anything. (Except for the brushless motor and ESC)

I feel the rush, and try to stop my knees from shaking, once they start doing their thing, I take a small step back, before it reaches my fingertips.

I found that this helps. Once my Raptor lifts off, I take two steps forward. It's almost like this delays the jello legs.

I always wondered if newbies like me don't mess up a good days flying for the veterans ? I mean, if I start my heli, everyone knows I'm new and they usually back off (you know, let me try to hover and stay clear, etc). No one has said a word, but I can't help to wonder what everyone else think.

Guess they like what they're seeing (with respect)and even maybe make fun of you or try to be funny  , jealous because they lost that feeling long ago doing a hover ;).
I really enjoy it, and hope it will last a long time.

Funny thing is, a Trex crash will typically cost less than a Balde CP crash.

Yesterday I flew my Trex 450 SE, my Quick of Japan EP8v2 EX, and my Blade CP.

The EP8 was just SO smooth and stable it was amazing. :)

The thing is, you also tend to crash less with larger helis. :)

I'm no 3D pilot and not even close to being one and I know so little about all this stuff... even after 18 months I get so lost at times.

We all get lost sometimes :)
But for me the SIM makes a lot of difference.
There's no pressure of crashing, just crash trying something, crash again and again, until you crash no more.
When it's second nature, try it for real at a safe hight.
