While flying my Tempest around yesterday all fat dumb and happy...It suddenly went SUPER LEAN..I landed as fast as I could and pulled the throttle to idle..It shut down..and was she smokin HOT... Checked the Plug..it's burnt...checked all the clunks..they look good. check the filters..all look good..Check for tank Pressure ..yep plenty..Hummmm not much else to check ..ok richen it a few clicks and test hover..Running fine and then again super lean..ok shut down ..time to take this one home..I get home and start dissassemble the pump regulator... nothing ... tear the carb down.. nothing ..pull the plug again burnt...hey wait a min the heads moving...Yep ever Damn screw is loose....This engine has about 10 flights on it total..NO vib problems ever with this heli or engine..so I guess we all need to put a hex driver on the heads now after about 2-3 flights ( When they are New ) to make sure all the bolts are tight
Just another Happy Heli Day... :banana

That's not unusual. All new engines will need every nut/bolt checked after a few runs then rechecked every now and then. In fact, I suggest checking all nut/bolts on all models whether it be land, sea or air.

The bolts on the engine need to be torque to 14 inch lbs. I use a torque wrench and torque all the bolts on my engines when I assemble them. 14 inch lbs is not much, but the is the required torque for 3mm bolts. Never had bolts come loose using a torque wrench.

may sound stupid, but when I ran TT 61's I would pull every head and backplate bolt out and loctite (after cleaning up of course). Took care of that problem. I also use a torque wrench and do the same to my YS's with the locktite. No problems.

Yhea I know that the torque is only 14 inlbs on #3 bolts and nuts but I have never had all the bolts come loose... and I do check them..but I have never found them loose..guess Ive just been lucky...well I still am cuz the only thing I lost was a day at the field..guess I'll start using locktite on engine bolts too...Thanks ALL
