View Full Version : Phoenix sound problem?
How is the sound quality of the Phoenix y'all's computers. I have a new PC with Logitech 5.1 surround sound and the simulator will only output a faint "whine" for the heli through the two rear speakers. When I exit the simulator, the beep after pressing "OK" will sound through all 5 speakers the correct way. I had Realflight G3.5 before this one and the difference between the two is like HD audio and 8 track. Is this normal? I LIKE the simulator much more than G3.5 but the sound is almost irritating.
BTW, the TREXs fly awesome and much better, I think, than the ones within G3.5. Also, I never really could get my DX7 to "act" right with G3.5, but it works perfectly with Phoenix.

The sound level for both the T-rex models is much more quiet than even the other electric models on my Phoenix sim. The 450 is barely audible. Must be something in the new downloads? :dontknow

BillActually, after turning the volume up on my speakers (the knob on the speakers) the sound is much better. It makes some of the other models a bit loud but they are easly tuned down with the volume slider on the pc tool bar.

PS Don't forget to turn down the volume when you close the sim or :WOW.

I can't get sound on my Phoenix sim hardly at all.
I have all the sound limits to full. Every other program I have the sound is fine but not phoenix.
I have to turn the volume up very hight to hear the aircraft. Then I only hear it when it's close. I'm at a loss now, and yes I have the volume turned up in the sim too.

My volume works fine on all aircraft and helis. I have never touched the stock Phoenix default sound settings. Dell Dimension E521 with 10 watt Dell monitor attached speakers.

I'm having a strange problem with sound. When I start up the sim the sound is sometimes ok and sometimes muted. If the sound is muted, then after I crash I suddenly get sounds again. If I crash again, the sound disappears. Basically, it alternates between having sounds and not every time I crash.
What's up with that? anyone else have this issue?
I've also noticed sometimes the sounds don't sound the same either. By the way, sounds in other programs work fine.

I can hear mine fine and have never had low sound.
The other problem mentioned: my engine noise has cut out after a crash and then nothing no sound ,but when i dive :) into the lake it makes the water noise. then sometimes senigine or no engine sound ?? Go figure.
I'm having a strange problem with sound.
Mine acts exactly how you descibed yours is working. Everything else is great but, the audio sux and disappears from time to time for one flight. Maybe it will be fixed in v1.04 but more than likely not. :dontknow

I've contacted Phoenix and they promptly replied (thanks!). They've asked that I try the latest MS DirectX drivers. I'll try that tonight and report back.
If you have surround sound set up, you may need to set up some upmixing so the two channel sound comes through all the speakers.

Well, I installed the latest DirectX updates but the problem persisted.
However, I then tried adjusting the Hardware Acceleration slider in the Advanced dialog of the Windows sound setup. Once I set it all the way down to "Basic acceleration" (one click above no acceleration) , the sounds in Phoenix seem to work properly.
And dang, with the sound working and running on a 30" high res monitor, this thing is _almost_ as fun as the real thing! :glasses2:

FYI,
I got the following reply from Phoenix:
"This would have been the next step after installing the drivers not fixing the problem.
We are considering changing the sound library which we use in the next update.
"
Nice they are looking into it.

Hey, just wanted to share that I contacted Phoenix about the Simulator Crashing/REBOOTING my PC Each time I start a session.. they replied that it may either be the sound or the video, and it definatley was the audio, (REALTEK HD), I caught the "error dump", and it stated that the Driver Crashed it...
So it is Really Good that they are (?) rebuilding their Sound Library.. :))
Can't wait to use this thing! :)
Cheers,

Just hit "B" to reset when you first start the sim (just before you take off. The volume will be much higher.
