I am seriously thinking about buying a Stinger 50. I have a couple questions, what do you guys use for a throttle servo? I am also a little worried about the set up, I have never worked with mechanical mixing, I have no doubt it is just as good as eCCPM like my Rex 450, but I keep looking at the pics and can't figure out how anything works?? How much trouble do you think I will have with the build. One other question, will the ds821's do for the swash?

I really like my Stinger 50.
I like to run a fast throttle servo. If it is faster than the collective servo then you will decrease boging a bit.
With mechanical systems each servo is doing a different job, ie ine servo for collective, one servo for right/left cyclic and one servo for for/aft cyclic.
I can't comment on the ds821 servos for I have never used them.

My Stinger is flying great! I am running all 821DMG's around they are a great servo for a good price too!!!! I would encourage you to get them. The set up is not as hard as it seems just read threw the book and you should be fine!!

If you already have the ds821 servos then yes they will work till you are getting into 3D flying.
If you are buying new servos then you want something faster.
The 821 are only .19 speed, you want at least .15, faster is better.
My preference is the Hitec HS6965 with .10 speed.
I use this for all 5 servos.
The servos are very likely to outlast whatever heli you get so it is worth getting good ones up front and not having to buy new again later.

Hey Jeff the 821's will run .15 @ 6.0v, is this a possible candidate? I am not into 3dz yet, I hope to be soon and would upgrade the servo's when I do get there. Trying to reduce up front cost for the who must be obeyed. LOL.

You will do more than fine with the 821's , I did great with hitec analog 425's before I found out that you "cant" use them.

Like I said If you already have the 821's they will work fine.
If you are buying new then start with better stuff to save upgrade cost down the road.
Once you fly a heli with fast servos you will not want to go back.

I started with Futaba 148 servos at .25 speed, ya they flew the heli but the 9252 that I upgraded to flew it a lot better, and when I upgraded the 9252's to the Hitec 6965's it flew even better yet. I have no problem noticing the difference, and I am not a 3D whiz by a long shot. I am still closer to 2.5D.

I'm using the DS 821's on mine as well, no problems so far. I would like a faster servo on the collective. I keep thinking about adding the Align BEC and swapping over to a large 2 cell Li-Po pack for 6 volts.

Thanks guys, I think I will go with the Hitec's, they have never failed me. I have another question that you brought me to Wren, what reciever pack are ya'll running? If I run a 6.0v Nimh do I need a regulator or a BEC? I have been looking at the duralites, just trying to get the best bang for my buck as far as flight time, extras needed etc. What kind of flight times do you get out of your reciever packs?

I'm running a 2800 mah 4.8 volt Ni-Mh pack now. Get about 5 flights out of it, but no more. Someone who knows more than myself will have to speak on the regulator issue. From what I understand everything should handle the 6 volts but the tail servo (if it's a 9254) Then you would need a stepdown for it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I want to switch to the Align regulator with Li-po power because I like Li-po's better and could use the extra speed on my 821's.

that is correct about the 9254 not being able to handle 6volts. i went to a lipo receiver pack and the first thing i did was change the servo am now running a hitec 6965 on my tail and so far it has performed flawless. i also running a Common Sense RC 7.4 volt 2000 with an mpi 6 volt reg can't complain, purchased it in a package and it has worked well
