When you have done everything below, MAKE SURE YOU CALIBRATE your radio in Phoenix. If you don't calibrate some things may not work properly.
Select a blank model. Make sure the model is a HELI (not ACRO). DATA RESET the model. Name it PhoenxRC (if you want).
In the model setup (DOWN+SELECT with power on, no wire in the trainer socket), select:
[THRO HOLD]
HOLD POS. 0.0%
SW:RUDD D/R
[THRO CURVE]
NORM
0.0% INH 50.0% INH 100.0%
ST-1
25.0% INH 25.0% INH 25.0%
ST-2
100.0% INH 100.0% INH 100.0%
Map your channels as shown in the print screen. Pay attention to the various push buttons for invert and governor.
With these settings you can use your flight mode (idle up for Futaba) 1 and 2 for mild to aggressive head speed. Use the throttle hold (RUDD D/R) switch to practice autos.
The Gear switch should control landing gear on models with retractable gear. The AUX2 should toggle heading hold off and on for the gyro and, control Flaps/Motor tilt on appropriate aircraft.
You will probably want to adjust your expo to smooth out your stick response.
