HDX 450 vs Trex 450. Which is better in terms of flying, buying, repair, parts, performance, crashing, etc...
Just Wanted to Know!

Thanks!

The HDX and T-450SE are almost identicle. Now depends, are you camparing the Trex-450 Authentic V2 (Most recent release) v.s. the HDX?

HDX and TrexSE share many parts. some parts are diffrent. For example: If I can remember right the transvers shaft is 47mm on a HDX but 45mm on a trex. As for better or wosre. I would not trade my HDX for a trex. I like the frame/servo layout better. But a trex has major part support. Almost any local hobby shop that has align parts will have a trex450 part. HDX is a little more picky. I fortunatly get all mine quick from helidirect.

As for the V2... I still like my HDX450, but the New release V2 Trex sounds nice. thrusted bearing on the blade grips and a few extras for one. But apprently parts are darn near imposible to come by right now. Its prefference/price what you want v.s. what you can get. And how is the part support for you? If I crash I have extras. If I dont I wait for parts to come if I dont match an align part I may have at my LHS.

These are some thoughts.

I was comparing the TrexV1 to the HDX SE. I was looking at helidirect and the HDX is much cheaper for the same stuff you would get on the Trex SE. And Ya my LHS supports trex stuff.

By the way How was the build? Was it pretty straight forward? Where all the parts there?

Great now I am divided on my decision.

Yeah the build on a HDX was really stright forward. Finless took care of that real quick :) for us people that are visual. The Heli comes with no manual but tail/ head were all assembled. And my HDX head, all though I cheaked every part prior to flight, was all locktighted up. My wiring is a little messy right now, but if you look in my gallery, I got two snap shots of my HDX and a modified battery mount. I used to boom supports put together to tilt the battery tray to fit under the canopy. If you look at HDX assembled pic from a vendor youll see what I fliped on mine. Few others have done the same. But most importantly you have to be satified with your decision. Affordabulity has a lot to do with it to for many.

I am a little late to this thread, but someone mentioned the TRex 450 V2 has thrust bearings. So does the HDX450 V3. I like the servo setup of the HDX better. It survives crashes very well. I planted mine nose first into the dirt. I replaced the feathering shaft (different than TRex) and main shaft (same as TRex), then went and flew. Its a solid machine. I paid $188 for my kit off ebay, with motor.

You didn't have to replace ANYTHING else??? Flybar, blades, boom???

As I have a 3DX, I was surfing Helidirect for parts , check the price differance for parts from the same manufacturer at XMSeller,
http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/StoreFront
Though I found aluminum landing gears only $15 at helidirect compaired to the $40 I just paid last month.

I LOVE my HDX450 V3! Instructional video was a little off as they upgraded some of the frame parts in the V3 but it was easy enough to figure out. Price was great, build was easy enough for a first-timer like me.

I'd suggest replacing the ball link set with the Align 450 set tho.. thicker guage rods and a little more precise ball link sockets. Also, the all Metal landing gear is near impossible to put together without scratching all the plating off the skids... I just replaced mine with the TRex 450 plastic skids and gear set for $11.00.

With the cost of this kit, you could buy another KIT and have a complete set of spares for what a few rex parts would cost ya too. ;)

I have a HDX 450 V3 and have nothing but trouble with it . 3 times just before lift off ,light on the skids the best i can tell the main rotors glitch or just STOP!! No damage to main blades, but bends main shaft feather shaft and roasts servos. I am not a beginner, used to fly 60 size nitro few years back.I have heard HDX had some bad kits shipped awhile back. I have had a severe vibration from beginning, best i can tell its from the motor. This last incident right before lift off head locked again, main blades EXPLOADED going in diffrent directions.Twisted main shaft broke tail blades. ANYBODY got any ideas whats wrong??? :arggg: :arggg:

WoW. That sounds like a nighmare. I finally got the space and the *Marbles* to fly mine. lmao

I LOVE IT! After flying the AXE CP for months, and SIM for months, and coming to the realization that "It's just a hobby... go ahead.. break it if it must..." I flew my HDX around last night, in the wind even.. (I've been anal about waiting for no/very light wind) and what a difference! OMG.. It floats on air, near hands off hover (need just a touch of tweeking) !!!

n27:

Which motor is it? And if it's an outrunner.. is there anything near the fan mount that may be grabbing the motor ? ie: Wires, Zip Ties, etc..

Also, if you haven't yet. Read through the entire post in Finless' Build room for the HDX 450 Build Videos. People have posted just about everything they encountered with the V1 on up.

Sorry haven't got back sooner,busy@work. The motor is the SONIX 3500 KV that comes in the kit. It is an outrunner, and clear of all obstructions. I have tried to think of all possibilities - ESC glitch? - one way bearing bad? - Motor? Helped a friend set up his ALIGN TRex,works and flies FLAWLESLY!!! Very agravating.
