I know its kinda stupid question, since i got the phoenixsim i was so impatient. I got it for about 4 to 5days now. ive been pratice about 1hr to 2 aday. But i still can't control the heli to stay still like bob's video (hover-training) i have Disable the wind but the heli still moving away and it hard for me to get it turn back to where it was. and i had alook at some people skills on youtube like this one
http://youtube.com/watch?v=VtKvE74ofF0
u can see like he is holding the heli, and heli is staying dead still and the flip is perfectly and seem like he holding the heli flip it up and down.

Is it normal for a newbie like me on the Phoenix sim or is it just me?

How long does it take you guy on the SIM before u mastered the hovering skill and confident enough to go out do real flying?

*Edit: beside i am using Trex450 and easytraining heli in the sim. is there any heli that might help me alot better?*

Thanks
Andrew

It will take some time, but eventually you will learn to control the heli. :-)
The 450 isnt the best heli to start practicing with on a simulator. Go with the Synergy N9 or the T-Rex 600. When you are able to control one of those properly, you should begin practising with the 450.

The bigger helis are much more stable.

The only way to get there is practice practise practise.

Good luck

Yeah the trex 600 is my favourite heli on phoenix. You might find it easier using the hover training on phoenix this allows You to start with the pitch first then when comfortable you can try pitch and roll and then add tail rotor aswell. once you have mastered this you can start changing the orientation. The most important thing to remmember is to use small stick movements to keep the heli level. With bigger movements you will end up over sticking and having to keep recorrecting your last input fighting to keep the heli level

Keep practicing you'll wonder why you found it so hard once you can do it

I have 10% expo dialed in to my DX-7. You can also turn the simulation speed down a bit to get started. I start my practice at 80% speed for 10 minutes then 90% for 10 minutes, then 100% for the rest.

I also practise with the bigger heli's, the 450 in Phoenix is twisty with the 3D setup and small.
The small size makes it hard for hover-practise or other precise manoeuvres especially on a flat monitor, in real life this is easier IMO because you can see real depth.
The guy in the video is good!, that took many hours of practise on every single figure maybe months/years and many hours of trying to fluently go from one to the other.

Mate - Some folks get it quickly, for others (like me  ) it takes ages. Don't try to rush it and you will get there at your own pace. All good advice above to use a bigger heli like the T600 to start with. That video you showed might be something to aspire to, but that was an expert 3D pilot with I would gues many hundreds or even thousands of hours on the sticks. Enjoy the journey as there is no real destination since there is always more to learn :D

have you tried the hover training in phoenix? its very useful to be able to start with 1 control, get the hang of that then add controls.

Thank guys. Yeah i know time is a killer if u r waitting for something or want something quickly. I do find it so true that in the monitor, you kinda can't see where the heli heading too. everytime i try to hover, it seem to move and if i stir it to come back it seem to move more than i expected. and if it fly away, i try to bring it back it just crash

Ade_law, yes i have tried that, it awsome, and i can manage it go fast and slow it down and i can do it nicely. but in normal mode, it just go everywhere.

So you reckon it take abit of time, a month?

How about everyone who read this, please reply How many day/week/mth does it take to have you complete the first hovering ?

Took me quite some time - maybe a month or so to get to the point of not crashing ALL the time at least. On the other hand I didn't sit in front of the screen 24/7 but did an hour or so each day.

Now I'm flying the real thing as a second step newbee, and haven't used the sim for some time. Got the Phoenix a few days ago and enjoy it - I realy think you get much more out of it once you've just tried to fly for real (even just a hover with training gear) and have been familiarized a bit with radio and flight dynamics.

Got a 11 year old kid at the club who started the Reflex-sim in September 06, flew a Hawk Pro 30 in October and an X-Cell Fury since November. Now he's tick-tocking down our runway and autoing with a loop! :noteworthy

Some guys and girls simply have the brains, the coordination and adaptation skills!

Well, anyway - I just "fly" for fun

Takes a long time, don't try to rush, it just makes it more frustrating.

Put in less correction than you think it shoud take and you wont get into the back and fourth gonna crash situation, watch a recording of a hover with the sticks turned on, youll see how little stick movement it takes to hover.

Keep at it youll get it, Rick
