Finally dumped my CNC dual tail housing and went direct drive. Used an EDF50H fan motor with a GWS EP4530 black prop in tractor config. Immediately noticed a difference in the way the G90 held the tail without hunting or wagging in the wind. Running 90% gyro at tx and about 30% 3in1 gyro gain. Balance of this very fat heli is perfect now too. Once again, you guys were right about this set-up! Should have dumped the duals long ago! Is a BL motor even better? (other than the obvious increased longevity)

i will let you know tomorrow man. im sure it would be better, since going from a brushed to brushless motor in anything yeilds more power and run time. also added bonus if you go bl tail you get to remove the 3n1. saving you 10 grams. also lets you clean up the nose of the heli.

BL tail is a little better IMO. It holds a little beter in hard punch outs. Personaly, I like the 2x3 press on prop better than the 4530. Less mass so it doesnt bounce back as much. Add some brake to the tail. I use 30%. I know it sounds nuts but the Bl motor takes longer to speed up and to slow down. Also, run the Gyro in digital mode, it helps the response time on a BL motor. The're a lot tougher than the brushed motors so they can handle the digital mode. One more thing. You'll need more powerful batteries with the dual BL motor setup. I use the TP 1320 on mine. You'll puff the stock 8c packs. The main advantage of the BL tail is definately the longevity coupled with the satisfaction of not having to swap them out all the time. I have at least 12 burnt out brushed motors (maybe more) laying around somewhere if anybodyhas a use for them. If anybody knows the pinion pitch on the stock tail I'd sure like to know it. I'd love to find a pinion with the right pitch that will fit these Fiego motors. I drilled out a stock pinion and tried the geared setup with a BL worked awesome but my hand drilling left a lot to be desired. I was a little off center so I went back to the DD setup.
If anyone can give us the unbiased skinny on a BL tail you two guys should be able too.

hahaha good think i have a huge pack.. also that my 2 stock packs have made there way to my rc18 along with the stock brushed motor, since the 3s pack burnt out the stock motor on the truck.
im going to be using the exact same motor as buzz with a30/20 or 20/30 prop. i dont know the exact type it is. it came with my gws edp 50xc motor from bphobbies.
im getting excited, my motor should be in the mail by 1 tomorow. then back in the air by 2. ive spent my weekend staying up till 5am playing real flight. side hovering is way easy now. my 3d is also getting smoother. but still looks like arse. i think the next few weeks are going to be good. just gotta get over the fear of a hard crash.

Say, Buzz..let me see if I got this straight now. You are using dual BL motors on tail? I would think it would be almost impossible to match phase angles of two motors driving a single tail gear. Maybe I am reading it wrong. Does a single BL motor on the tail draw more current than a 10c lipo can handle?

LOL. Noooooo! I'm using Bl on the main and a BL on the tail. Maybe I wrote it wrong? I was saying that with two BL motors (main & tail) the draw will be more than the stock 8c packs can handle.
where are you guys getting the 4530 prop and adapter? Someone said tower hobbies has it?

could someone post a link please, I can't find it on bphobbies. I see the 3 to 4mm adapter, no 2mm.

thats it man, order the esc trust me. i thought my setup was going to be cheaper. i was wrong i have to spend 65 to 70 plus shipping for a cc10 now. when i could have ordered the esc along with my motor at the same time and save like 30 bucks. the cc10 alone cost 50ish. you will also want the pehinox (spelling) 10 program link. so that you can set the tail up on your comp, instead of by stick. also the need for brake is really needed. most other esc's only let you turn it on or off. with the cc10 you can set liek buzz has it to 30% brake. thats another 30ish with shipping. but i can honestly say its arequirment. atlest in my eyes now.

This works for me. No more dmaaged motors from pressing the 0320 prop.

I have been thinking of changing over my tail system for a bit now from dual to DD. What is a great set up for this? If you can post a shopping list for me of items and places to order. Are there any DD tail housings that look real nice?

the only one ive seen has a flimsy tail fin as part of it. take your stock tail houseing and enlarge the whole for the motor shaft and thats it..
bphobbies sells a kit it has a edp 50vx motor with 2 3020 press on props.

I got this link from a fellow Helifreak quite awhile back. It's definately worth a look. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5288431/anchors_5288431/mpage_1/key_tail%252Cmotor/anchor/tm.htm#5288431
