View Full Version : One-way Bearing woes.....

So my one way in the auto hub keeps locking up on my Titan. I understand this is a common issue. It’s never been crashed (knock on wood) and has only started doing this in the last few months (got it new in November). I have tried: Light oil, Lithium grease, Thunder Tigers Grease, as well as running it dry. Same results… Four or five flights (if I’m lucky) and lock-up. Not big a deal to fix but certainly inconvenient. I did some searching and saw a thread about over tightening the Jesus bolt (I was guilty of this) so I replaced the one-way clutch shaft (BK0034) just incase it was out of round. No help. So now I’m just going to replace the Auto Hub in hopes that maybe I just have a finicky (or damaged) one way. Good idea? Is there a premeditative fix for this? Are there any aftermarket options for the 50 like the Quick UK hub for the 60/90 class Raptors?
Thanks!!

I'm still new myself, but everything I've read says to avoid actually using grease and to oil it instead, as the grease becomes too sticky when it starts to break down.

For prevention, check out BarracudaHockey's review/build article on RCU (http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/article_display.cfm?article_id=836) where he mentions lubricating and sanding the hub.[/url]

Sand the inner radius of the tail drive gear so it doesnt drag.
Don't over tighten the lower jesus bolt, just tighten it slowly till you see the tail drive gear start to wobble then back off.
Lubricate with TriFlow and keep after it.

The thing about them is some of them lock up no matter what you do, some of them wouldn't lock up if you lubed them with a handful of dirt.

Great input guys, thanks!
I'm letting the bearing soak in Denatured alcohol, I've sanded in inside of the tail drive gear. I'm pretty sure the bike shop up the street sells Tri-flow, I'll get some tomorrow. If this does not do the trick I'll just replace the bearing and try again.
Thanks again guys, I'll post my results!
