Hi there.

I have a raptor 50 with 401 gyro and 9254 servo for tail. The servo has let me down which resultet in a crash. After 10 minutes of flying it started to make piroettes and i had to put it down. The belt for tail is tight enough.

The last time before the crash the tail seemed not to stable when giving full pitch it flew to the side. When I got the heli the tail was totally stable.

After the crash the tail seems to work properly, it is fast and has power. I will not fly before i either have replaced the servo og has solved the problem.

Any ideas/experience!

Which other good tail servo could i use for combination with gyro 401? Maybe a Hitec, as i have heard that the 9254 has a weakness, which might be what i have discovered.

You have probably the best servo for the job that you can possibly get. How many flights had you made before the one with the crash? When your receiver battery gets low, usually the first thing to go is the gyro. The voltage gets too low and the gyro resets itself just as if you had turned the Rx off and back on. When this happens in flight the gyro's center can be way off and will result in an uncontrollable tail.

It works now? Nothing wrong with it. Get a bigger battery or make less flights on it. Test it after every flight (when the batteries are lowest) before you make another flight.

What are your limit settings, servo arm length and gain settings.

Running too much gain will over heat the servo so you need to have a good initial setup.

Hi again. I think it is my battery which need to be changed! The voltage seems to get to low. after fully charge all servos suddenly started not to work properly. So i think you are rigth ghtracey! Now i will try out with another battery which is fully charged.

For Hockey: My delay was 0, and limit about 130 if 60 is the initial and lowest number. Gain has been about 100 which may be to much! Servo arm length about 8 mm.

But hopefully my servo works anyway. Cheaper to replace battery! :-)

On the Raptor 50 the arm ball link should be about 14 mm from the center of the spline (servo arm screw), somewhere around 100 on the limit or slightly above and 50 to 65 percent gain.

You can do a neutral adjstment on the tail rotor in rate mode but if you set it up so that when the servo arm is centered the slider (brass) is 4.5mm to 5mm from the tail case you will be close enough.
