HW Platinum has switched BEC. How different it is from Pentium, in term of power saving?
For the same electronics, how much power safe do I get from using Platinum over Pentium? My guess is not more than 5 - 10%.

Switching becs do not bleed off the excess voltage, difference between input and output voltage, as heat. They can work from a higher input voltage. A typical linear voltage regulator needs the input voltage to not be more than a few volts higher if its full current capability is to be realised.
