View Full Version : How to assign head speeds to flight modes on the DX7

Today somebody noticed I had a lower head speed on my DX7 when I was in normal mode and a higher one when I was in IDLE UP. He wanted to know how I did it because according to him people on the net were looking for a way to do that. I don't know if that's the case but if it is I thought it would be nice to share the method I use on mine to do that.

Firs I use the GEAR channel for the head speed.

In this picture you can see the GEAR channel being lower on normal mode than the next picture which is on idle up.

As you can see in this picture the gear channel is now at a farther travel spot while in idle up.

The method is pretty easy.

First go to the travel adjust and make the travel on the top side whatever head speed you use for IDLE UP. Also make sure the lower side is set to Zero. This is set to zero because we will use something else to handle the other side.

To program a speed for normal mode you simply use one of the programmable mixes in offset mode.
Notice how the rate is set to -100% so it goes opposite it's natural way sending it to the right side. Also set the other side to Zero. Now the amount of offset is the one that will give you a way to set the normal mode head speed.
Now in order to set it so it only turns on on normal mode set the SW to be active only on Flight mode Normal "F-NR". This will only activate this offset mix when the normal mode is active and won't be active in IDLE UP modes.

After you do this you will have the head speed assigned to the flight mode switch automatically.

ok sorry for what may be a silly question but why would you use this method? or the benefits of it?

i was under the impression that the throttle curve is what set your headspeed? isn't that what curves for normal and idle up 1-2 are for? ie 85%,90-95-100% to vary your headspeed?

or does this method make you set your throttle at say 100% on the curve and a bit slower in flight?

maybe i just need to keep re-reading it but seems to have confused me even more than anything...just when i thought i was getting a good understanding of throttle curves..lol

also you say you used the gear channel, can i assume that if gear is my gyro channel i can do your method using the aux2 channel?...

if you would be so kind as to explain to a still learning type what the advantages or reasons for doing it this way vs the standard throttle curve way it would be greatly apreciated and help me learn more as well..

thanks

oh wait...your not talking about an electric heli are ya....and that controls your throttle governor or servo to regulate throttle?...ok back to read it one more time...lol...

I had a crack at it using Aux2 : http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=36487

PaulB showed me a method, which I'm now using with my RevMax.

Auggie didnt mention it but he is talking about settings for a governor. He is using the gear channel to set the RATE (like a gain setting) for a governor and thus his head speed.

Bob is right (as usual  )

I was referring to the settings for the governors.

I was really lost on that one at first.

The picture markups referring to Gov speed tipped it off.
