I have been absent from the hobby for 10 years. Stepped into a local hobby shop with my daughter a few days ago and wow - have things changed.

I always wanted a RC scale helicopter and now think i will take the plunge.
My flying skills are rusty, so I purchased the G3.5 sim to brush up - I need it.

Here is/are my question(s): What is the best larger "electric" heli to go with to convert to a scale ship once the crashing, i mean training is over ?

I am pretty much set on electric and know that limits my choices.

I read that both Thunder Tiger e620 SE and TREX 600 have good kits but don't know what is offered for scale upgrades or would work with electrics.

thanks for the help and guidance.

Well Thunder Tiger makes scale canopies for the Raptor line, so I'd assume they would also fit the electric 50's (E620) as well... provided you can overcome the embarrassment of flying a *cough, cough* Raptor... <grin>
You would really have to compare the mechanics of an E Raptor to a Trex 600 to determine if they are close enough to stuff the Rex mechanics in a fuse.

Wayne,

What Other choices should I consider in the 50 size electric Heli?

the ONLY choices I know of for 30-50 size fuselages is Century Helis, and Raptor..
Of the two, the Raptor is the better choice IMHO.

I just completed a TT MD500 on a Raptor 50 nitro. Check this section for my other thread. I assume the E620 would be a bolt-in. TT also has a Ecureil (sp?)/ AStar fuse out for the 50 size as well.

The problem with the TRex 600 is the flybar being beneath the main blades, which may cause a problem of interference with the doghouse on top of the fuse. That said, several conversions have been done wiht the 600. I have seen the TRex in an Airwolf (Century, I think), and there's someone working on one in a Century MD500.

In any case, with a TRex 600, you will have to do some fabrication. The TT fuses/Raptor mechanics go together very easily. I initially assembled mine to the mechanics in about 6 hours. I would think it would go as easily for the electric version. As far as paint/scale detail, well the amount of work is up to you, but with the TT fuse and TT mechs, it should bolt together...

I'm not sure if the e620 will fit the Century H500. The front radio tray might interfere with the canopy. I might get an e620 for my Hughes soon then I can tell you if it does

The other problem with the e620 in a scale fuse is the motor location. That wont be a problem in a Hughes 500 (huge dome behind the main mast) but it might cause trouble in other fuses where the glow Raptor fits fine.

Thanks for the feedback. This is something I always wanted to do. Not "3D" tricks.

I placed an order for an TTe620 SE. So, that part is finished. I choose TT due to its close size measurements with the nitro version.

I was wondering how much the TTMD500 Weighs ?

My rig will come in at approx 7.5 pounds, how much added weight would be added by the scale fuse ?

Mine weighs a little over 9lbs with an empty tank. I never weighed the Raptor w/o the fuse, but I would guess it adds around 2lbs or so. The TT manual lists fully equipped weight as being 7.7 lbs, so they're a little optimistic. It still flies nice, even at 5000ft, but you can tell the motor is working harder, and I have to run 30%.

DMB you could also look into Approach engineering they make AH-1 Cobra fuse's for the Century Swift which is a 30 size, and also there are plans to release a AH-64 Apache shortly for the 30 size.
