View Full Version : New SpeedWing 250 MK II Video!
Hey guys, I just uploaded a new video of the SpeedWing 250 MK II to the website.
This one is powered by a Feigao 3125kv 30T 20mm short can motor spinning a GWS 4x4 prop and using 3s 1320's. The amp draw is just under 10A static, so I'm using a ThunderBird 9 ESC.
This is a very nice flying, fast setup on the cheap ($25 for motor, $25 for speed control). You can use 3s 800's for even lighter wing loading and cheaper battery setup.
This was shot at my local club field in Greeley, CO, elevation 5,000 ft. It was pretty windy that day, but the SpeedWing 250 MK II didn't mind at all
Well, here's the video: http://www.speedwing.net/wimpy/waspPopup.html?theFile=http://www.speedwing.net/assets/multimedia/sw250mk2_windy_day_hq.flv&wW=undefined&wH=NaN

Great Vids. Sold me! I've ordered a Mini Speedwing EX RTF with an AR6100 Rx so I can get more use out of my DX-7. I've already been practicing flying the electric wing in the Phoenix Sim in preperation. Thanks Acer! I'm loking forward to getting to the point of being able to fly the really fast wings ..... but the Mini Ex looks like a great flyer to start learning ..... and I can fly it in my back yard!
It kind of reminds me of my old Pterodactyl Ascender II + 2 Experimental Ultralight (2 seater). I love flying wings!!!!

Acer,
Awesome speed range! Did you use a specific prop for 5000ft?

:D My Mini Speedwing EX with Spektrum AR6100 Rx is completed and shipped. I think I am the first 2.4 Ghz wing that Andy has built and test flown. Thanks Accer (Andy). I have a ton of Phoenix sim time on the flying wing. I have done sooooooo much wing research on the web and am familiar with almost every current design. I am looking forward to flying the Mini and will probably be purchasing a Speedwing 250 kit next and building it myself.
Thanks Andy! I'll post my first flight impressions SOON!! :glasses2:
Your welcome Bob, yes your's was the first Spektrumized ;) MSW EX that I put together. Hope you have fun with it!
Oliver, no, I just used a GWS 4x4 push on prop. It seems to be the best prop for this motor. There are a few others that are flying the SpeedWing 250 MK II on this same setup now, most of them at lower elevations. They are getting a little over 100 m.p.h. straight and level. It is a great SMOOTH flyer which can still fly in smaller parks because of its great low speed charicteristics.

IT FLIES! After owning a DX-7 for almost 3 months and having flown nothing but the Trex 600 heli and almost every plank in the Phoenix simulator (especially the Flying Wing) ..... I made my solo R/C flight unattended, in wind, and did not crash!
My power supply,TP charger, and TP balancer also got their first workout.
I had some last minute questions for Accer (Andy) and he was very quick to respond. My next flight will be later today with NO wind.
I highly reccomend the SpeedWing Mini EX for a park flyer type wing, and can attest to the fact that simulators do work!! I flew and flew the wing until I could fly and not even think about what I was doing on the sticks ..... it just went where I wanted it to go.
Thanks Accer for putting a smile on my face. It was a pleasure doing business with Speedwing.net. I will be ordering more battery packs soon.
Update .... The wife and I went to a local park this evening to try my hand with less wind. I managed a nice long flight with loops and rolls and only one minor grass contact. On the way back to the car I had a kid roll by on a skate board and compliment me on my flying. DANG! Made my day!!! I think my wife was also impressed.

These look like a blast especially for what they cost but the idea of putting a battery pack on the bottom side seems like its going to get smashed when you land.

Accer's wings have a plywood keel that protects the battery. The battery fits very snugly into an oval slot cut in the forward most keel section of my MINI Speedwing EX. I've crashed a lot during my learning phase and only have some added tape on the leading edges at the center (right in front of the battery) and it flies great. I've probably got around 15 flights and it still flys perfect. My batteries do not have a mark on them. I am glad I bought 2 batteries. I am doing 7 minute flights which puts back around 220 in a 350 mAh battery. Since I am now flying much smoother, I intend to go to 8 minutes a flight. I am also executing a few full throttle bursts into my routine and the Mini EX really moves out.
As my first "plank", I am very happy I chose this wing. It is easy to fly and very forgiving in a crash into grass. Kids love to watch the wing fly!!!
Now we have a MINI to haul my Mini Speedwing EX, and it is even more fun to drive to and from the flying field.

Hey I have a mini cooper too. EB Cooper = Electric Blue Cooper.
I'll probably pick up one of these wings sooner or later. Just got a Trex 600 so basically I'm broke.
