I just did send a email to Thunder Power:

Hi there,

I donwloded firmware update 2.2A for my TP 1010C and tried to upgrade my TP 1010C today, resulting in a blown fuse of my power supply and a defect charger. It doesn't work anymore (doesn't switch on properly) and short-circuits on all my power supplies. Now I checked your site again and noticed that you removed the firmware upgrade 2.2A, so I assume I'm not the only one (have to check and notify the forums about this SERIOUS problem.)
Please let me know what I can expect form you guys, with your reputation of manufacturers of a good Lipo Charger!

Hope to hear from you soon.

Any others noticed the same problems?

I installed the new firmware yesterday AM. Charged 2, 3300 7 cell NIMH packs for my heli starter, no problem. Later charging a 2100 3s lipo at 4.2 amps with the balancer connected. Was running for about 2 mins, the balancer started to make a faint squealing noise. I disconnect the balancer from the battery then disconnected the battery from the charge leads then a loud POP from the charger. Only the backlight on the display lights now.

Not sure if it had anything to do with the 2.2 update or it was a just a coincidence but will call TP monday am and will send back the balancer and charger for repair / replacement.

I bet you it is since it happened just after a update... I would be all over them to fix yours or get a replacement.

I updated both of my chargers and didnt seem to have any issues. previous version installed was 2.1a. I tested both of them after the update and both appear to be working perfectly.

What version was yours before you flashed to the new update?

I am a little concerned though that they dont seem to have the update on their site though. I guess I will try not to use them much until I hear back from the e-mail I sent them. I hope they are quick with their replies.

Not sure if I should go back to version 2.1 for now or stick with 2.2. :(

I was using 2.1 with no problems since it came out. I would stick with 2.1 until we find out why the update disappeared......

Same here infact after reading the problems people are have i have gone back to 2.1a , Even though 2.2 worked fine i just did not fancy the chance of it going wrong and having to wait weeks for a replacement.

So its 2.1a for me for a while

And what sort of response did you want? They are going to fix it.

"Sorry sir. Our R&D department made a mastake. We will prompty fix your charger at once. We will send you a prepaid box with packing material to your door step. It will arrive FEDEX in 2-3 days."

I kind of like that better.

I'm sure they will fix it. I wasn't complaining, just relaying what they said

I updated both of my chargers last Friday and was using for the weekend. I found no problem charging with both NIMH & LiPO.

ALso a bunch of people over on RCG have been using the new software and as of last night (when I last checked) there were NO reports of any failures.

It could just be coincidence. And thus TPs response, if in testing there were no such problems, and so far the ones here are the only ones reported, it is likely they are treating this as a normal failure, not related to the software.

It could just be coincidence but why did the update disappear off the website ? I am curious to see what they say when they check my charger out.

HeliEdje, your unit was a genuine Thunder Power charger and not one of the knockoffs?

I have no reason to doubt the origin of my charger. Anyhow, I just shipped it today to TP in Las Vegas, If it's a knockoff, they wil tell me.

Can you tell me how to recognise a knockoff??

that doesnt look like a genuine 1010 to me. Mine all say thunder power on them and also have the model number on the lower right corner.

NOTICE: In dheppner's picture the charger says SM-5500A for the model number. That might look like a Thunder power charger But I bet it wont accept their Firmware updates. Also the TP charger DOES NOT have Nicd and Nimh features labeled on the case, as far as I know.

That looks like the kind they were selling on ebay a while back. I would bet thats a knockoff model.

here is a picture of mine, and they are real TP chargers.
