Whatever happened to the warnings and lectures about flying the larger helos around and especially over people. I'm not necessarily against it as long as everyone knows the potential danger but this is so contradictory to what I've heard and read.

Maybe because at Indy they hit the wall at 230mph+ on a daily basis in the month of May.

Seriously, it is very dangerous flying Helis around people.

I think it is an acceptable risk in this situation. Here you weren't flying over crowds of people who had no idea what was going on. This was a controlled shoot, and from what I can tell the pilot seems very experienced and knowledgable. You can tell that every shot was planned before, and you can bet that safety was a main concern while directing each shot.

In the major film industry cast and crew are often put at some form of risk or another to obtain the desired shot. I was once placed in a rubber raft about 25 yards from the edge of 150 ft waterfall. The raft was tethered to a tree on the shore. This was a risk, but one that I agreed to take, but I knew the rope had been setup by a professional rigger who had done all the ropes for the movie Cliffhanger, so I knew the risk was actually minimal.
