I'm a newby who just bought a gasser on ebay and it had "only been hovered twice" with the engine still requiring to be "broken in". I guess I was slow-it's like the car that grandma only owned.....
Anyway-I'm tearing it down to learn about the gasser and make certain all the parts are operable and safe (I'm going the print the manual download at work tomorrow). So at this point, this is what I've found and need help with (please):
1. Looks like the internal plastic? clutch disc was laying on top of the engine with a burned mark and build-up on one part of it.
Question: can I just replace the clutch component or should I also replace the machined clutch head? (I'll get the proper terminology with the manual tomorrow).
2. The engine turns and sounds like it has good compression.
Question: should I pull it out and check it by ???? (put it on a stand and try to start it or is there someone/a company that will look at it and rebuild it if need be?)
3. There is a white powder residue on the engine, especially around the spark plug. Does anyone have any idea what might have caused it?
4. All bolts have a slight layer of rust.
Question: I am WD40 all bolts and cleaning the rust off. Is there any area where I should be careful with the WD40 like bushings or bearings?
Thanks for your help out there!!

I'm fairly new to gassers and the Bergen in particular, and these guys are great as far as helping out. However, I will say that if you can post pictures, it'll make it MUCH easier for any of us (us meaning those who know what they're talking about :D) to tell what is going on.
You are going to be amazed how differently these things are compared to the T-Rex. Unfortunately, I haven't flown mine yet, but I've seen a couple now, flown a raptor 50, as well as a T-Rex. The bigger, the better. I still can barely fly my T-Rex around without running into the ground. The Raptor, I've done a few tic tocs, stationary rolls, inverted hovers, etc. It's really just unbelievable how much better they get as you get bigger.
Sorry I didn't actually answer any questions :) Just wanted to give ya an excuse to hurry up and get that sucker in the air (properly and safely of course ;)). Get us some pictures and it'll help a lot!

I am only new as well as you know from my post, can't help you with the clutch but the white powder sounds like corrosion, does it clean off with a rag and WD40.
From my experience the bolts are black and not coated so if it was sitting in a shed with cool moist air this is normal.
I personally would put some fresh fuel in and give the engine a run using the throttle manually and without the blades on to just idle etc and see how it goes. The motors are like whipper snipper motors they can sit in the shed for ages without any problems, my heli had been sitting for well over 12 months and 2 pulls on the cord and it was running and flying.
Hope this helps for now until someone more familiar with the Bergens can help.
Good Luck
Steve

Pictures would certainly help, I'm not sure what you mean by

WD40 won't hurt much, just don't leave it on thick to attract dirt...

Thanks, I'll figure out how to post some pics (especially the white powder around the spark plug-looks like a bad saturday night). ts

Bolts do rust. I have a bird that is almost 10 years old and most of the bolts have rust on them. Even the pushrods and the flybar control have have some surface rust. Do not be alarmed, its normal. Even my new Spectra-g heli has developed some rust, and its only about 1.5 years old. I don't treat the rust and its never been a problem. I think they rust due to humidity and being in my basement.

And unlike slimers, there's not all that oil flying around to keep things lubed up.
