Having trouble maintaining altitude

Why is the sim (g 3.5) so stable compared to flying a T rex with just a small amount of wind (5 to 10 MPH)? I'm having a hard time maintaining altitude, all of a sudden the heli just drops about 6 inches or so. What do I do, just keep practicing?

Yep there's no substitute for stick time. You'll soon start to learn what the heli is going to do next (Well some of the time :p ) and compensate for it

Changing wind will cause this. When you get some wind, the heli tries to climb do the extra lift from the moving air. When the wind stops, it wants to fall.

Also if you are flying near anything, the wind can swirl and cause various dips and hops.

Just work at it.
