View Full Version : Knight 50 Sport as first nitro?
No, I did not, but it is certainly a good idea. A post flight inspection showed the spindle bolts were loosening, and I promptly applied loc tite. I plan to take the spindle and dampeners out for inspection when I get those spare parts. Practicing autos is fun, but there were a couple of hard landings, no apparent damage though. Still, a dampener and spindle inspection is due, since there is some wobble before the target headspeed is reached.

Do not let that heli sit in the sun with the windsheild painted black. Even in your car it will warp. The black paint tends to hold the heat and warp it. Just a heads up.
Keep it covered when left in the sun or car for long periods of time.

Bh,
that looks great! I think that's either the 3D or the Pro, judging by the metal parts on the tail. BTW, my Duralite system and 9252's came today. Thanks for the advice on these long ago. Really great setup.
Rodney, Thanks for the tip. I'll throw a towel over it. And it will NEVER be left in my car.....

My canopy fit weird too. I not only had to make new upper holes, I had to switch the upper hole mounting posts lower. I changed them with the next lowest frame member. All very strong and neat, no worries. I had to do this to get room on the canopy to make the holes. Here's the result

I'm pretty sure that's the Pro. Since its painted, I assume that's a 'glass canopy. But its the same shape as the original sport canopy. BH, would you mind asking your friend if that's a stock canopy? I'd like to get a glass canopy for mine and need to know where to look.
Thanks!

here's mine, ready to go. Maiden is tomorrow. Sorry for hijacking the thread......
Very nice! I'll chime in so you won't feel bad :) What are those tail blades?
I installed 85mm CF NHP and they have been working well. Not holding as great as longer ones, but with the soft fin, and a couple of hard autos, they only nicked a little bit that epoxy and sanding could not fix. Shooting autos from 200 ft is now what I think is the most fun. I was never able to do that with my Trex 450.
By the way, I hope you have better luck with those Mavrikk's than I did with mine. Mine were terribly unbalanced and almost shook my heli apart for the first few flights. I switched to $90 Radix since, and could not have been happier.
Here's how mine turned out in flight. I have since added a header tank. I am very happy with it, except some lack of power and punch, which I have to attribute to the power plant. My OS 50 non-Hyper just won't provide a whole lot of it. Running MultiGov at 1950 headspeed, MP2 pipe, Cool Power 30. It does not want to run much faster, any more leaning causes it to run too hot.

The tail blades are just the stock ones off my Raptor Titan. I use Radix blades on my TREX, but they were out of stock when I ordered these. Funny, I've used these lots of times and had no problems. THey actually run pretty well for me. I have a friend who runs them too with no balance issues. Hmm....
Yours sure looks great in the air!

Well, I tried to be cheap and got the G4. not the G4 Pro, to save $15, and did not know any better back then. That's probably why. What a waste. I will eventually get a blade balancer and try to get them flyable as backup blades though. Goes to show it's not a good idea to save on blades.

oh, that's it. Yeah, I have a set of G4's I use as spares. I was flying them on my Titan recently and they fluttered in backwards inverted. Made this really scary sound...
I tried to balance the Mavrikk's to the best of my abilities, but as far as I could tell, they were not too bad, CG and weight. Still, they were causing tail vibrations like you would not believe, so I don't know what is wrong with them. Maybe warped. Oh well, that's one topic I won't worry about.

The pic on the first page is a Pro. It has 3D stickers on it but the frames are not the 3D.

Allright, so I got some flights in. Yesterday I flew a few times and had some issues, some stuff to work out. I found the washout arms weren't parallel to the grips which was causing a bit of interaction. And with no slop in the CCPM, no slop in the linkages or servos and a little error caused a big problem. So it was fast and all, just kind of goofy. So I fixed that and today,,,,,, BABY!!!!!!!!!!!! Rock on! now this thing is groovin. So I cranked up the cyclic and wow! Its on rails. It flips so so fast but smooth at the same time. My first stall turn was a 900, felt great. I did a piro flip but the piro rate is so much faster than my titan I messed it up. Inverted forward flight is like too easy. Holding the shape of the arc and altitude is a no brainer. Stationary rolls and aileron tic tocs were great. No tendancy to drop the tail. I did some elevator tic tocs and bogged it a bit, gotta get used to the collective setup. All in all, I'm really pumped about this heli. The feel of that T6EX radio is sweet, too. Everything worked great on it. I think more value minded pilots would really benafit from it. Easy to set up, DOES have sub trims and works great. The only thing I don't like about it is the throttle hold pitch curve is taken from normal mode.
