I just put my whole Heli back together, except the set screw i broke off in the tail :arggg: (How am i suppose to get that out?) and i noticed my pitch servo has lateral movement in it when i was doing a bench test. is this common? or just a casual thing to watch for? I did some searching on HeliFreak and found an post on someone who had sheered one off in mid flight. That is insane! if that happened to me I'd be swearing on my machines rapid and kayotic (sorry i don't know how to spell) decent.

Thanks to all who reply, your knowledge and stories are always appreciated.

P.S. How do you Transport your machines, I have a blazer and am absolutely perinoid about my machines getting beat up in back with the way i drive. is there a good way to "strap" them in?

Set screws can be gotten out with a small screw extractor (easy out) or if there is some sticking out, cut a slot with a dremel cutting disk and use a straight slot.

Whats moving? The servo itself or the output shaft? If you used those brass collets get rid of them and use the screws that came with the kit and the servo plates. Also make sure its not binding at the ends from too much throw.

Good way to "strap" you heli down is weights across the skids. I use the bean bag type scuba weights.

I use a cookie sheet with velcro straps glued to it. It keeps the heli from falling over and the pan catches any gas that might drip off.

Fishing pole holders from Walmart work well for me. Just screw them to a piece of wood or something and drop the helis in. I have been doing this for a couple of years. They are cheap and easy to use.

WOW thanks for all the replies on holders!!!!

BarracudaHockey my Endpoints are set correct. I will take your advice and lose the brass eyelets. the outputshaft itself has "side to side play" (its actually up and down) as you advance your pitch the servo shaft shifts down about 1/16th to .10th of an inch. i think it is definetly beyond safe to fly with and has to go. i read somewhere about the JR 8611 being a good reliable servo. will that work with my Futaba PCM setup? i've never bought anything but Futaba in all my RC years from cars to boats to "Planks" (LOL new term i learned) to Helis. Are they good? or is there a better Futaba i can stick with. I'm still new to Helis my Raptor was my First Machine. I've had it for about a year almost 1.5 and i have a few medical, well call them issues. where i get tremors and am very hard on machines because i have to correct for unplanned inputs from my hands. knock on wood and thank god i've only had one hard landing/crash. bent my tail boom and sheared a doublelink in the head. i love my machine but need it to be more reliable then me. :? :(

Yes JR servos will work, 9252 is a solid choice though. Sounds like the bearing or output gear in that servo is shot, what servo is it?

it is a S3151 (not designed for heli use) :arggg:
that'll teach me

Its not that you use a 3151. A servo is just that, a servo. On a 30 a 3151 will do.

However I think the kind of play you see is due to resistance somewhere along the drive train. Try to loosen up balllinks. Also your servo mounting rubbers may not be tight enough.

People told me a 9202 is not good enough on pitch on a 90, however it does tictocs and piroflips without problem. What people mean is that you want a better SAFETY margin. I'll be using a 9252 soon. Then I'll upgrade it in the 10+ kg class because you can do more impressive figures with that.

A 3151 is a 148 with a digital amp, get a better servo especially on collective pitch, the cost of a servo will be alot less than the cost of a crash caused by a servo that isn't up to the job.

got a replacement metal gear for temp use. what would be a good set of servos to outfit my cyclic with? i was thinking S9250 or S9255 but it looks like alot of ppl on this form use S9252. what is the best for a long life?

P.S. where do i post a ? about using Li-Po as a rx Battery, in the radio forum or the battery one, or maybe a different one. thank you all for the support

I been useing 9252's in my helis for sometime with out any problems, great servo. As for the Li-Po for the rx it will give you longer battery life at the field the only probem (balance) of the heli. :D
