View Full Version : Using a DX7 for a simulator...

So I bought this lil Tx to USB interface that I was planning on using with my DX7. When I plug the USB interface in to an empty port on my PC windows detects it and installs a new joystick, so that seems to work properly.

Now the problem is that when I plug the JR mini jack in the DX7 it turns on and comes up in trainer mode (I have set the trainer mode to normal, left rocker...) now when I go to the control panel and look at the joystick reading it seems that its not getting any signal from the Tx as in none of the axises or buttons change.

So my questing is really several:

1) What trainer mode should the Tx be in for a simulator?
2) How do you actually use the rocker to enable the trainer mode.
3) And what in the heck are those rocker switches for anyways?? I have looked in the manual and its pretty vague? They seem to just be another set of trims.

Anyways, hope someone out there can help.

I'm not sure on the sim software you are using or the interface.

For some simulators you have to setup a model in the TX as an airplane and use that for the sim.

The rocker switch for trainer mode is only used to allow a trainer radio connected to your radio to function throught it. SO it's not used for the sim.

Refer to your sim documentation for more information and/or the sim section of these forums.

the DX7 generally follows the same setup as "JR".

1. set Trainer Mode to INH
2. Trainer Mode is only use when in a buddy box situation, not on in Sim. mode
3. The rocker switch has two modes. a Trainer Mode -> Allow trainee to control the model. or as Hover pitch trim ( bias the pitch in normal mode.)

TX don't have to be program for Airplane mode as Jermo say. Just make sure your swash is 1 SERVO NORM.

I'll try that on G3.5, The way I said to do it was the fastest/easiest way at the time.. tnx.

Well I have tried every permutation possible and still no joy!! I'm just not getting any signals from the interface, windows is sure of this as is the sim....I'm pretty sure this interface is fubared so I'm having them send me another.

Here is the link to the interface I bought just in case:

Thanks for all the info as well.

Just as a follow up, I got my new interface today and it worked right away using the setup that fireup recommended.

Another question I have is: can I use the Tx while its charging just so it won't drain my batteries? It seems to work but I'm not sure if this strains the circuitry in any way...

I think it does charge it at the same time but have not test to confirm it myself (it won't strain the circuitry if you concern about that). I just feel it's in my way every time I try to charge it and use it for the sim. at the same time...

Will this work with RealFlight 3.5?

Yes. When you plug in your DX7 into the RealFiight TX, you'll get a second device added to the devices menu. Select the second device as you main transmitter and you're good to go. You can also use both TX and fly two heli at once.

Heli Harry has a good setup. A bit complex for me, but still.
