I went to a SCHC fun fly and I think it's my last until they can get a handle on safety. A T-Rex went down and a rotor blade flew by about three feet from my head, Vic's out-of-control Apollo hit a fence where several people were watching and there was a group of young guys tail-in hovering T-Rex 600's, badly, only five to ten feet from them selves in the work area. Very scary. I think they have a good group of people but someone needs to step up and take control. It's a bad accident waiting to happen.

I thought SCHC had implemented some safety rules several months back along with a sort of "checkride" where you had to demonstrate some specific flying skills before being allowed to fly unsupervised.
R1R - I certainly learned to fly with a CP heli (T-Rex 450), and probably that's true for most people here. I don't see how that's inherently reckless.
[edit] Or you mean learning to fly without a sim... I can see that. Sorry.

Does anybody have a link to the vids that works as the post is kind of meaningless without being able to see the videos?

I want to try this stuff too, but I know I am nowhere near ready for it, he is going to end up hurting himself or someone else. Watch all the way until the end where he almost hits himself in the face. And his buddies filming think it's funny as hell.

Honestly, except for that last one where he should have definitely been much farther away, I think he did great! He did the majority of his flying pretty high up and I think the camera guys are making it appear worse than it was.

I myself am to blame for flying beyond my skills at one point. Now i was no were near people since i was to nervous but i tried to Invert my Old Raptor 60 BEFORE I knew how to set a throttle curve and what gyro was :-/(Doesn't hover well with a liner throttle curve). Lost my prebuilt raptor and felt sick to my stomach for about 3 days. Being Proficient at Helis or any other flying is a task that JUST TAKES TIME!! Come on guys you know you still pull the sticks wrong every once and awhile :-d

Almost a Year later and he still hasn't learned any better. Damn shame that someone would fly like this in the streets with CHILDREN present.

Woaaa dude scary. I don't dare do anything more than hovering and setup flights in the front yard.

yikes, i think they need to bring the PPP back and enforce it or somethin, but sounds like they already do stuff like that at the AMA fields.

Ok, (Flame suit on),
The children were not near the heli at any time....you don't even see them in the video. I will admit, for basic hovering and figure 8's, I've flown in my court. I don't do it when children that I don't know are out, and if any are out that I know, I have them stand behind me....same as when I fly at the field.
You KNOW many many people fly their 450's at home...it's a fact! Heck it's why many people got a 450! Now, I don't think he should have been flipping it right there however....he did loose control on the one flip.
Flame on! I'm just being real and not "pretending" to be shocked by this!

Victor is not allowed back here on Helifreak ever again. His last run involved slanderous statements about the Helifreak staff and involved other vendors as well.
Victor, if you continue to come back here and make accounts we will be contacting you with further actions! Last warning.

As the Human Torch would say........... " FLAME ON!"
Skarn, it is not the fact that he is flying in the streets.. It is not the fact that he is flying around people and children. Yes people do it day in and day out. This thread is Titled "Flying beyond your known limits" and this is a PRIME example of just that. ****** is not at the skill level to be doing those things in a street with people and children in close proximity to him. This is shown quite well when he loses control during that flip. It is one thing to put yourself in harms way, but to not respect the safety of others is just crazy. A heli can cover 100's of feet in seconds and in any direction at any given time if you are not in control of it.
Let me put it this way. When flying in those situations, you have to fly within your limits. If you can only hover and fly circuits flawlessly, then that is all you should do. You should NOT be pulling manuvers that you cannot do flawlessly in close proximity to other people and especially children.
