View Full Version : AR6100 firmware bug a 'fringe' issue? I'm not so sure!

I don't know, but this evening I was able to reproduce the full elevator issue on the receiver within 30 ft of the TX in a stable hover. Drove my TREX-450SA straight into a tree in my backyard. The head is gone, the canopy gone, bent the battery tray, may have busted the ESC, busted the tail linkage and stripped the main gear.

I have read the posts about how testers were able to reproduce the trouble and that many consider it a fluke situation. I had my bird up and practising side-in hover the battery before my incident and was preparing to try some nose-in! The bird was in the air for maybe 15 sec. on the second battery, I was hovering in Idleup 1 and steeling myself to turn the nose when it began to roll forward and I could not stop it. It powered into the tree 10 ft away before it had a chance to make it to the ground. If I had got it turned first at the very least I would have been repairing some siding on my house. I shudder to think what might have happened if I had it turned nose-in.

On a more positive note I am relieved to experience my first big crash. Once I got over the initial shock I actually had a good chuckle, sort of a 'Holy cr@p, that looked cool!' giggle.

I'll be sending both my AR6100 back for upgrade and would recommend any other owners to do the same. "It won't happen to me" just happened to me. IMHO there should be a general recall...

Sorry to hear about your crash. I sent mine back and it took 22 days to return.

Noticed :WOW ..... Rear servo on the inside of the frame :?:

On a positive note, I had a 6100 that bit me twice in 2 flights, not knowing there was a problem till after my second crash. 6100 returned, same t-rex, same location, up to 35 flights now with zero problems that I can blame on the 6100.
I have sent all of mine in now, would not trust a non-upgraded 6100.

I just bought a DX7 and a 6100. Is there a way to tell if my 6100 needs the upgrade?

Possibly serial # range, etc...

I'd appreciate knowing. These thing are hard enough to keep in the air without fighting radio issues!

Those of us that sent ours in ..... some have a V1.2 sticker or a silver dot .... some do not (I do not). If you bought it new (sealed in pack) then look for a V1.2 sticker on it. If no sticker is on it, I would assume it is old stock and needs the firmware upgrade.

As jimh said ".....would not trust a non-upgraded 6100." Wise Words :!:

Uupdated 6100 receivers are being shipped. They have a V1.2 sticker on the end that is visible through the packaging. The four I returned for updating have a silver mark on one end. Also the work order stated they were updated and had a tech's name.

I sent mine in last week as a precaution. I have over 200 flights on it with zero problems, but I figured better safe than sorry.
