View Full Version : Problem Charging Less Than 1C with Multiplex LN-5014

I have a couple TP 2070 and 2100 lipos for my Trex. I normally charge them at 1C (2.1A) without any problems. If I check the voltage after the charge is complete they show 12.5V. (I assume that's normal, as ALL my lipos end up at that voltage?)

However, occasionally if I'm in no hurry I set my Multiplex LN-5014 to 1 amp, or even .5 amp. It still seems to charge OK, but the ending voltage from the battery will be 12.2 or 12.3? I have to restart the Multiplex again, and give it another go at the battery to get back to the full 12.5, adding another 150 to 200 MaH. What's up with that?

Should I not worry about it, and just charge at 2.1 amps all the time? Do I really gain any battery life charging at a reduced rate, and if so how low should I go if I have all day to charge? And lastly, is the double charge to get full voltage normal for my charger, or is there something wrong with it?

Thanks,
Jason

There is a safety feature that will not allow the charger to put in more than 110% of the selected current...
It assumes the charge rate you set will be 1C, say 2A for a 2000mah battery. When the charger gets to 2200mah it terminates the charge as something must be wrong... a 2000mah battery should not take 2200mah.
When you select a C rate below 1C it is possible to hit this 110% limit prior to the battery being full.

Atleast I think thats whats going on.

That makes sense. I'll even test your theory out next time I charge. If I bring it down to say 1/10 C (.21A), I should have to restart several times to get a full charge.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks,
Jason

I charged my 2100 at .25A this morning. Just as you suspected, it stopped charging at 275mAh, or 110%.

Thanks,
