I heard through the grape vine that TP or FP provides LiPo cells under an "off-brand" label. Has anyone heard anything. Or know the name. :dontknow

I know for 100% certainty that FlightPower does not.

Remember that FP and TP are just buying their cells of a manufacturer, they are not producing the cells themselves. That manufacturer is selling cells to several different brands. A good example is FlightPower/Hyperion/Polyquest cells are all identical, they may however be assembled into packs in a different manner. I'm sure many of the 'cheaper' end brands are also purchasing their cells from the same manufacturers.... whether these cells are as good.... who knows.

I figured as much. I find it hard to justify the cost of $300+ on batteries. I also don't fly 3D yet. I have MegaPower and Align (4400 mAh 18C ea.) and after 20+ flights they seem to be good. I look for reliability more than high performance at this point in my piloting career.
