My TP 2100 15c gets 135 degrees after 7min of hovering only! Is this normal or something i should be worried about?

headspeed, ESC make/model, Motor make/model, Pinion, Heli make/model, Blade lenght + make/model,

ESC settings also.

Ouch - too hot, at 140F you will start to significantly affect your battery's lifetime, possibly already degraded since the centre cell will be hotter than the outside ones.

Since it is 2100/15c I am guessing you are flying a TRex450 or similar ? If it is an SEv2 with the 430XL motor then you batteries are not up to it. That motor is very thirsty and requires 20C packs.

However the most common causes of high motor/ESC/battery temperatures when "just hovering" are too tight a gear mesh and/or too tight a tail belt. Here is an easy test:

With the heli unpowered:

a) Spin the head clockwise with a single flick. You should get at least 6 full rotations

If not, your belt is probably too tight.

b) Spin the head counter-clockwise (turns the motor) with a single flick. You should get at least 2 to 3 full rotations.

If not your gear mesh is probably too tight.

I have the 450SE v1.5 stock speed control and motor. Blade length 335 wood with the longer 220mm flybar and weights next to the padle. I dont know what my pinion is but whatever stock is. I havent checked headspeed yet but i dont think its that high compared to some that i've heard on the field. My esc settings i dont remember at all.

Hovering actually takes more power than mild forward flight. 7 minutes seems a bit long .... time wise. If you have a true 2100 mAh pack you should be putting no more than 1680 mAh back into the pack ..... and I'd say 1600 mAh back max would be a safer number. The 335 woodies should be run slower than the 325 woodies. It would be interesting to change to the 325s and see if it cools the battery down.

Definitly do the spin test that kgfly suggested. Are you lubing the main shaft, bearings, and the tail belt?

Bob I can hover 7 mins and put 1600 back into a 2200mAh pack easily. All depends on setup.

I'm guessing high pinion with low %throttle and/or ESC settings...ie high timing, high response.

What should i configure my ESC settings to? What size pinion should i use?
I have lubed up main shaft, belt, the bearing for the main shaft were brand new so i know its not that and the belt was brand new. Could it be from a brand new belt that needs to be broken in? I have never checked temp. prior so i dont know how hot it was running before.

Jermo .... agreed! pcar993 .... what are your ESC settings? What pinion tooth count? What are your throttle pitch curves for your hover flight mode? What is your total pitch range at full travel in the flight mode you are hovering in?

Ok, i'll get back with all the answers.

PCar, when you power up your ESC will beep a sequence. Tell us what that is :)

ok i got some info..
Beep sequence: 1,2,2,1,3
Throttle Curve: 0-36-70-85-100
Pitch Curve: 40-45-50-75-100

I fly under normal mode still and thats my current setup. The adjustments for the linkages are per Finless' video.
