OK, First generation Stinger 50. First owner flew maybe 2 gallons, I've flown 5 gallons now. Blades are going in and out of track. Never been crashed. Replaced main blade grip bearings and spindle shaft last night, didn't help.

The outside bearings just fall into grips. Is this too loose?

The elevator control arm links have a lot of slack in them, where the pins hold them on.

Washout base has some slack in it now.

Any of these things contribute to the problem?

What else to check?

Just sorted out a governor problem as well, broken wire in the sensor harness....1 out of 2 isn't bad. :dontknow

try checking you dampers

They have only a gallon of fuel on them. Gohbee "On Edge Dampeners". Checked them real close, they look fine.

Forgot to mention, running 1850 and 1950 on the HS, higher seems worse.

you could try replacing the grips and all the ball links and see if that helps.
i also don't think that the head speed is the problem because i know some guys that are running just under 2000 HS. also are are the grips metal or plastic

Plastic blade grips. The loose bearing kinda makes me wonder. One side is looser than the other.

i would have to guess that the bearing location in the grips i wallowed out also what about the thrust bearings did you put the smaller id to the outside toward the grip?

Yep, smaller one out.....triple checked!

Upgrade opportunity.

one final idea is the inner diameter o ring in the damper facing in toward the head block

"On Edge" Damper System with 90 Durometer O-Rings for Stinger 30 and/or 50. Recommended for all aluminum head blocks and for maximum rigidity with plastic head blocks. For correct installation the I.D. O-Ring should be inserted toward the center of the head block. In other words, the I.D. O-Ring should not be adjacent the rotor grips.

From Gohbee, the way I read this is the smaller fat O-Ring goes toward the head block, the small skinny O-Ring that's on the outside goes out toward the blade grip.

yep... that's right. i would try replacing the grips and possibly bearings other than that I'm outta ideas :dontknow

Already replaced bearings and thrust bearings.

Thanks for the replies!

sure no problem

If there is a lot of slop in the system due to the loose washout base, that could be a contributing factor.
Also check all of the links to be sure that you do not have a tight one some where.
If they are all tight that is not as bad as just one tight one.

Just for kicks and giggles, I swapped out my MAH blades for the Gohbee blades, still have the problem. I'll catch up with Big Al later this week and replace the washout base and the main rotor grips. Think I'll upgrade the washout base to the aluminum one.

try adding a shim inbetween the grip and the dampner, stiffen that up . That should cure your problem.

I'll give that a try. I replaced the washout base with the aluminum one, replaced the blade grips, replaced one double link, rechecked all ball links. I do have a bit of slack in the collective servo, I'll replace it at Chatti next week. I just came back in flying and it's driving me crazy! :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: If I go a up and do a flip or tic-tocs, they'll go out of track. :(

I'll let you know how it works out.

Thanks Bill. :D

Just one shim? Either side?

I've sent my son out to the shop to get my Stinger manual, I'll see what it says.

I made 2 spacers out of glow plug gaskets, installed between bearing and original spacer. Took them down to .024" thick. I'll try it on Sunday.

Hope that cures the woes, i used a glow plug gasket before also.

It helped a lot!

But..............The pinion bearing locked up this afternoon and spun the bearing in the frame, melting the frame! So now I've got to tear it down and replace the frames! :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: :arggg:

I'll replace the main bearings while it's apart.

Hard week this week, got a lot of work to do.

Work
Get camper ready for Chattanooga fun fly.
Repair Stinger
Finish build on TRex 600 when DX-7 comes in.

Try avid rc , they have every bearing except thrusts for a dollar. For example these are grip bearings. http://www.avidrc.com/?action=item&id=31&prevaction=category&previd=1&prevstart=0

I'll pick them up from Big-Al along with everything else. Didn't take long to tear down!

I'd like to give these a shot myself, but, they're a little pricey side have a look. here's the link:

and it includes ceramic thrust bearings :glasses2:
