I know some batches of the DS821's had issues with snapping of the shafts. I just got three that I'm saving to use in my T600 when I get it later this year. How can I tell if these are affected?
Thanks in advance... The servo's appear to be unused and in excellant condition. I'm pretty excited that I just need one tail servo, the combo kit, spares and batteries to be done. :)

I'm using them on a Stinger 50, no problems so far. I've never read anything about any certain ones failing over other ones.

Some folks reported problems with the output shaft snapping off.

If you fly them, and loose a servo in flight, you will know you got a bad one.
Bin them and put some decent servos on there it will be cheaper than fixing the helicopter. They make nice release servos for hauling up a GIJoe paratrooper.

Jermo,
I have four of these, brand new, gathering dust.
I checked out JR's website, and they did not differentiate between batches. They stated that 821's should only be used in .30 size or smaller helicopters.
Being a complete coward, I just got a set of metal geared 8317's for my Raptor .30, just to make sure.
I will probably put the 821's in an airplane, as I have read too many times about the output shaft failing.

A couple of people over on RCG reported that they could get the bad ones to break by hand resistance to moving. Not stalling the servo, but holding it from moving fast. The ones that passed flew fine, the ones that didn't were broken. :)

The other day when flying my Raptor .30 the elevator servo died mid flight and oviously I buried the chopper. I am a beginner, figure 8"s, just getting comfy nose in, so I can not imagine that I was to hard on the servo. I have DS821's all around except for the tail, at first the servo seemed locked up,(right after crash), now I can move it by hand but does nothing when operated from TX. I am going to can them all and replace with something else, I just do not know what yet.

I dont understand why someone would knowingly take a servo that even the manufacturer isnt comfortable with using in helis and use them anyways. Its been my experience that a crash caused by going cheap on equipment almost always meets and more often than not exceeds the cost of getting decent equipment to start out with. I'm not saying use everything the Szabos do and spend top dollar but there's historically reliable equipment like 9202s and 9252s and a host of other servos that I just dont see the justification to use ones with a high failure rate.

I agree, however I had not known of any failures prior to this. Everyone around my local scene said these worked great, and I am still getting comments like "I can't believe that happened with that servo" or "That is a great little, inexpensive sport servo" from hobby shop owners. Do you have a recommendation that is less expensive than 9252's? Are the 9202's digital? Thanks

9292's arent digital.
Hitec has some reasonable digitals, check http://www.servocity.com
Also I wasnt refering to you, you didnt have the information that other people have and still choose to use them.
