View Full Version : storing LiPos

Sorry for this very basic question, but I was staring last night at my ammo can full of batteries, and started thinking what would happen if something spontaneously combusted.

I've read that LiPos don't normally do anything while just being stored, but it still has a slight concern for me. I have this ammo can with 18 LiPo batteries inside, and was thinking "am I putting all my (wildly inflammable) eggs in one basket?"

So, that's the question: Is storing all my batteries in one ammo can just about as stupid as storing them out separately? Does this just turn my ammo can into a UXB?

I should note I've drilled the requisite couple of holes in it for venting, but with 18 batteries, that seems somewhat inadequate.

Thanks,
John

Believe it or not but I store mine at 50% charge in a lipo sack in the fridge. Keeping them cool is good for them...

I put a bag of sand on top of mine so the heat melts through the bag and pours sand on the batteries, i also store my batteries separately so if one catches on fire it doesn't ruin the others.

For storage I don't bother with anything special.

I charge using a lipo sack. If I crash, I leave that pack outside over night and then charge outside on concrete to make sure it is OK.

Lots of packs in an enclosed space is a bomb. There was video on RC groups about a single large packs ripping an ammo can apart when overcharged, even with a 3" vent hole in the can.
