Next week i get my 600 Nitro and i was wondering what do you all think i should get for servos for it? am not made of money so within reason for something that's going to last longer then 100 flights :D

i think the perfect servo for any 50 is the Hitec HS6965 running on 6v i cant find much better for the price, its digital, has 111oz of torque and a speed of 0.08sec/60deg. but they cost between $70 and $80 each thats the down side.

my opinion is save up and get good digital servos. that will last way more than 100 flights and digital will never skip a beat.

I suggest the Futaba 9451 servo. very strong on 6V and fast , metal gears... Tower has them for $74.99 each and if you use code 014YA , then you get $25.00 off any order of $149 or more. So that means you can get 3 x 9451 servos for : 74.99x3=224.97 - $25= $199.97 :woohoo

3 servos? What about for throttle and, more importantly, the tail servo?

I second the 9451's. I use them on my 50's and 90's @ 6V and have never had a servo related problem.

I opted for four HS6965 servos. My kit will be in my hands on Friday so we will see how everything goes soon enough.

I think any mid/low range digital for the throttle eg Futaba 3152 or Hitec 6635 or if you fit a Spectrum their standard servo would be fine. As for the tail the trusty 401/9254 would give best bang for buck or else the 611/9256 or Logicec 6100 combo - unless you're a hot 3D'er the 401 would be my choice - if you're gonna crash the ideal mounting point of the 611 control unit makes it vulnerable esp with that glass face .....

The DS821 the comes with the Spectrum is probably not a good idea. JR says max of 30 sized nitro for those servos.

I was thinking I could use one of my DS821s on throttle. That should work ok don't you think? Then 3 9451's for the swash with a 401/9254 combo on the tail, regulated down to 5.1v I guess. I just don't see what one more 9451 would do for me other than cost another $80.

I'm still learning. 4 months in so far. I'm into a little FF with circuits and I've successfully done a few forward and back flips high up. The 401 has worked well with my Rexy 450SE so far. I think the extra power and sensitivity of the 611/9256 would be wasted on me at this point. Plus it costs a good bit more. Then again, not getting the good stuff has hurt me before. I started with the Align gyro which costs half as much and works half as good as the 401.

Currently, my gyro is on its way to Hobby Services for some "repairs". Yes it was mounted on top of the boom and no, I won't do that again. It was involved in two crashes. The first just chipped off a piece of the case and it still worked after that. The second time, which was last Sunday, I finished the job. I could wait on it to get back (or for them to send me a new one) or I could just go ahead and buy the 401/9254 or 611/9256 combo.

Decisions, decisions...

We were talking about servos for the throttle and the DS821 would be fine for this. There have been some issues regarding this servo used for cyclic on 50 sized helis due to the servo spindle snapping thought to be due to the spindle screw being too short.

If you want to use a governor now or later a very fast servo like the 9254 probably will be a better choice.

that's gonna be my choice too.

I am using the HS 6965 servos, they work great, BUT they are a bit taller than many of the servos out there, and even with the arms cut down as far as you can for the full push pull setup, they rub on the inside of the canopy. my canopy got a little crack before I noticed. I am running a few washers under the rubber canopy bumpers to help, or you could run a single link on the lower side. IMHO its a minor problem on a SWEEEET heli! :glasses2:

For the gyro, I'd spend the extra $130.00 now and get the 611 and never be disapointed in the backwards performance of the 401. The tail blowing out is not a great confidence builder.

Will they rub with the balls (towards the frame) reversed?

the balls are reversed (facing inward), they actually are rubbing on the nut on the backside ball. I am using the heavy duty wheels cut down as far as possible, so maybe a thinner arm would help, but I prefer the beefy arms.

Thanks for the heads up bro! My build starts tomorrow night.
