Odd... that is a VERY large difference!
But something is NOT making sense... if target head speed is achieved at 20% what has idle 2 got to do with it? 20% throttle is 20% throttle? Idle 2 should be the same 20% not 25%???
Same for gov high... if you get it at 95% then you should get the same at 95% in idle 2!!! Idle modes are all about throttle unless you have modified your pitch curves in the different idle modes?

I had 2 different targets. Idle 1 i was looking for 1950 in idle 2 i was looking for 2100 does that help?

Everything sounds fine to me. I would run it in Gov. High, that's where we were running ours, and the throttle % is very close to what we had.

Hmmm if your throttle curve is 95% Wren1702 then my understanding is your at 95% of what the ESC can deliver and the gov now only has 5% to go UP when you load the head up. Castle and Clint told me MAX was 85% or the gov has no room to do it's job?
Unless something has changed in the code this doesn't make sense.... To me this doesn't sound fine.... I would rather run at 25% leaving thje gov a TON of head room... As long as the gov on LOW can react fast enough. I found gov low didnt work well on my eRaptor. It was too slow and pulsed.

No, I'm running Gov. High with a setting of about 20-25%. Speeds were set just like Clint likes to do it...guess I just worded it wrong.

When I set it up in gov high with gov gain on medium it pulsed and wagged the tail. Do you think I should put it back in gov high and just lower the gain? or how do i stop the pulsing? Thanks again for all of your help!

Hi Bob,
I hope you don't mind me jumping in but I have a problem and a question.
Problem:
I had to replace my ACE ESC in my mini-Titan with a Castle Phoenix 45. I installed the programming software on my laptop, did the config. etc. and changed the parameters for my setup but no-go.
The LED on the ESC flashes red (w/beeps 3 times) on power-up and then continues flashing red.
Per someone elses suggestion I lowered the Thottle L value to 110 and then 120. Still nothing.
I don't know what's wrong.
Using Spektrum DX7, AR7000, GY401. All pitch/throttle curves are in the radio.
Worked fine before with the stock ESC.
Any ideas?
My question (after reading your post about the static problem on your E620) is how did you solve it?
I'm getting a TT E550 & CC Phoenix 85HV and I don't want to have the same static problem. I've read all about the T-Rex 500 static problem but never thought it would appear on the E550/620
Also, I can't watch your video's as I'm on a Mac and can only use Quick Time or U-Tube.
Thanks for your help!

First did you RESET your normal throttle curve to 0,25,50,75,100? You may have had it changed to something for the old ESC and this will confuse the Castle! Also any chance throttle was reversed for that other ESC?
For the static on my e620 I ran a wire from the front belt drive pulley bearing and from the boom (scratched some paint off the boom under the boom clamp) to the CF frame (sanded the clear coat off the frame at a bolt location so the wire made electrical contact).

Thanks Bob,
Turns out I just needed to re-bind the Spektrum radio to the receiver.
Now all is well and I should be picking up my E550 heli kit tomorrow or Wed.
I should have all the parts by next week but the heli should be 90% done this weekend.
I really wish I could view your videos on my Mac.

You can view the videos on a Mac. You just need the right QuickTime codec.
Go here to download the free Windows Media QuickTime plugin:

I just DL'd the codec and I'm able to view the Bob's videos on my Mac!
Now I have A TON of watching to do :banana
BUT, Bob, someone, please send a link to the Castle Phoenix 85HV setup. I can't seem to find it. When I click the link that's in the thread with the other vids I get file not found.
Bill, again, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you were here I'd buy you a beer or something!!!!!

Thanks Bob.
I just finished watching all your E620 vids to prepare for my very first heli build (E550).
I want to take this time to thank you for doing them. I've built lots of cars, & trucks over the years but never a heli (mini-Titan was an ARF). Since it's my first, it's a LOT easier seeing it done the first time.
I look forward to finishing even though it will probably take me twice as long as you to build it since I tend to watch the vid, read the manual, watch the vid again, do the step, then re-check vid that I did it correctly. I also like the tips you gave that are not in the manual (like shoe-goo on the outer edge of the main bearings).
I did read through the manual one time before I started too.
I have not checked out the CC HV85 vid yet but that will come soon.

Bob and others,
Would appreciate some help for the old noob trying to set up the HV85 on my MiniJoker. I'm using a JR X9303, Tonic-X Z50A 780kV and 2 X 4S1P Outrage 25XP 3700 mAh packs.
After going through setting up the throtlle limits, I set up a 0/60/60/60/60 TC in normal to spool her up for the first time. I arm the ESC in normal at low stick, but if I hit TH while at low stick the head spools up. Also, if I spool up in normal and subsequently hit TH it does nothing. The radio indicates that TH is engaged at these times, but no TH.
Also, during the setup of end points, the low TL triggers the ESC at 56% which, and pardon my possible ignorance, creates issue for my pitch range.
Please help! :arggg:

Hey Bob,
Any plans for shooting another vid showing setup w/ the new firmware that Castle has just released?

Go into the throttle hold menu and LOWER the number for percent of throttle. It is probably set to 5% so try making that a -10 or so.

I followed your advise to calibrate the CC HV85 with my X9303. The high throttle seems fine (clicks in about 93%) but the low throttle clicks in at about 55%. Then, throttlehold does not work... If I raise the travel adjust back to 100%, the throttlehold works. I've made sure the CC HV85 is set to "helicopter" mode in the softwware. What am I missing?
Also, I went ahead with the headspeed test like in your video and reach the target headspeed at 75%. Funny thing is, it doesn't go any higher beyond that. I am confused here! I'm using the (Trex) 600XL motor if it matters.
Finally, the softstart spoolup sound quite strange (I've not heard one like this before) but seems to be fine once it is engaged and going!
Thanks for your help.

Go back and make sure you had your throttle curve set linear from 0 to 100, if you didn't it'll cause exactly what you described.

Thanks Alan, I had already done this... including making sure the manual throttle trim and sub-trims are set to neutral (i.e "0"). Any other ideas?

By the way, I noticed the comments just before mine and tried adjusting the Throttle Hold settings as well (with no luck). I'm down to -20 and it is still doing the same thing as the fellow above. It sounds like we are both having the same problem (user error????)!!!

You say you set it to "helicopter" mode. To be sure, when you set up the end points, you did this in "fixed end point" mode right?
It doesnt work in helicopter mode.

Thanks Maurice,
I am confused... Bob's video clearly recommends putting it in "Heli, Fixed end point" mode (albeit, his video shows a much earlier firmware version so maybe something has changed?). Not sure what you mean by "It doesnt work in helicopter mode." What mode should it be in? Can you elaborate?
Thanks!

O.k. Sorry, This is what i meant. You placed it in the right mode. "heli" > "fixed end point" when trying to find the throttle endpoints. Maybe my explanation was not clear.
I also run the new firmware version without problems.I do remember something with another club member and his x9303 radio with a cc hv85 on his plank with setting up the endpoints.
Let me get back to you on this. Turned out to be something simple.

Hi Hoverover,
Sorry for the late reply. Did you find the problem?
I tried to find what was wrong with my buddies radio last time....We don't know it anymore .
I know we had some trouble with the mechanical throttle trim on the radio. This should be in the middle and not completly down on the x9303. Also check the Hov. Thro trim (black toggle switch) almost on top of your radio.
