ya so yesterday i splintered my first tail boom. i went in pretty hard from a right side in hover. thought every thing was kool. set the bird on the ground spun her up. got a good hover around 6ft. then bam the tail snapped. like a mid air boom strike.

today i went to replace the tail boom, i bought soem debonder andca since i was out. i got the tail motor mount off fine. but when i was twisting the tail boom out of the frame it just snapped off. didnt leave enough to pull out. so that turned in to a frame replacment. but egh gives me a chance to fix a few things bugging me..

CPP tail boom is certainly a pita. I replaced mine with an aluminum "quick change" hillbilly fix.

do tell ? i was trying to figure out how i could use a cf shaft. i was thinking of ordering a cf tube the size of the tail boom. then another tube one size bigger. with sme set screws or something.

you could try to dremel out the portion of the boom that was left in the frame...

On your new stock tail boom use a glue like Epoxy or JB Weld. Makes it so you can change it out easy.

i tryed drilling it out, i tryed using epoxy and at the end of the day it was still loose and the boom could spin around easly

i have heard that heating it up (remove servos first) works well for removing the tail boom too, but haven't tried it.

I used my wifes acetone fingernail polish remover on a cotton ball. I soaked the tail boom mount and just kinda worked it free. After I used a hobbie knife to scrape out the remains of CA.

i think the tail boom is 5mm's ? if that is wrong please post the size of the tail boom. but lets say its 5mm. get a smale 1in section of hard tubing that is a nice snug fit over the stock tail boom. then drill and tap 4 holes and use very little ca. if you break a boom, just undo the set screws use some debonder or what ever. then your good to go. no more trying to get it out of the frame.

alright i tried the heat trick today...and it works great for removing the tail boom. it slides out like 'buttah'! only problem is you pretty much gotta remove everything, servos, main gear to do it this way. once everything is off of the chassis, set your stove on low and heat it up slowly. after a few seconds of heat, it slides right off.

i will keep that in mind.

i got my first test flights in this afternoon. i had replaced the whole frame and tail boom. ive now got to source out a bad vibration in the tail. i replaced the main shaft. so i know its not a bent shaft. i just dont know what to look for.everything swapped over smoothly. no binding, perfect mesh, pitch 0 at mid stick. would a slightly off center tail motor mount cause vibrations.

check that the tail rotor blade is balanced maybe?

hmm i dont have a blade balancer but i have 2 extra 3020 props and the adapter version of the 3020 . i think its the 4530 or something like that. i'll swap another 3020 prop on to see. it used to have no vibration after half stick. now i can see my micro heli tail fin getting a good 1\3 of an inch shake. its also a super fast side to side shake.

to also add one last thing. the vibration is bad enouh to screw with the g90.

I use a 6mm carbon tube ( 5mm is stock..can't buy it in lenghts only)..$12 for one meter so get 3 booms out of it...need to carefully bore out frame and tail rotor housings ..its just a tight press fit so when broken easy to fix. I use a 2" longer boom than stock, GWS DD system, holds very well, no HH gyro needed. Also lower skids by 1 inch...a bit less breakage. Also need to rewire tail with longer leads.

I don't do 3D ( yet anyway) so longer boom helps tracking in FFF.
