DX7 - problem switching between models

Have a little DX7 problem,
I flew my Lepton today, all went well - then wanted to fly my Razor. I switched the model memory to my Razor programming, but the radio would not link up to the AR7000 in the Razor.
Then I switched back to the Lepton - no problems.
Can't figure out why I can't get a connection to the AR7000 in the Razor - I have switched to that model in the radio and even tried to bind it again. No response. There is power to the servos, but no radio connection.
Any ideas - I am dumbfounded here,

very odd.. try switching to the model then cycling power on the TX, verify the correct model is selected, then power the RX.

That worked, but I had to do it a couple of times before it would work - once it reconnects - everything is OK - but makes me nervous that it took a couple of times to get it to work.
