I have heard people say that they have been in this hobby for 20 years or more, my brush with this hobby was about 20 years ago, when I use to visit a famous toy shop in London called Hamleys on the corner of Oxford Street and Regent Street in the West End. I remember seeing a RC Heli, it was very expensive.
My point is I would love to see some Vintage Heli and how they have change over the years, if any of you young old G's out there have some pics of vintage heli's please share.
Thanks
Robert

I turned of my gyro the other day, just to see what it is like ;-) (had it on a switch so I could turn it back on quickly when needed).
Didn't dare to do more then just a little hovering. :?

You have no idea how long I've been trying to remember the name of that toy. :)

The Vertibird was easy to remember. The one that I cant remember the name of that I had, was like the Vertibird, but was portable. It's base was red, and like a two "D" cell flashlight, with the drive shaft extending out from the base by about 3'. You could walk around, press the throttle button, and fly as you went down the street. That was fun too.
I guess that going electric was programmed in my head starting in 1971-1972. A year or two later, I got a nitro P-51 on strings, then another nitro toy the year after. I NEVER could get the things started. Not even once... I guess I have been forever tainted on slimers since. :glasses2:
NO WAY.. I could never figure out what that toy was called.... I remember it and it was SOOO Cool. Thanks for the pics!!!!

My first RC Heli back around 1980 was a Kalt Huey Cobra fixed pitch with a full fiberglass fuselage and a wet, oil filled gear box. I never got it off the ground. Then in the mid 1980s I got a Mini-Boy and then another Mini-Boy and put a Great Lakes Jet-Ranger fiberglass Fuselage painted as Santini Air from Airwolf. I still have all 3 but they haven't flown in years. I don't do the slime any more. In 1991 I bought my first electric Heli a Kalt Whisper which still fly's today.

I totally forgot :Slap I had one of these when I was a kid back the late 70's. My aunty gave it after buying it in a garage sale. Thanks for posting that pic!!
Dont know about you guys, but I think that footage would have to be around the 60's. Its a classic anyway, good find.

I remember the vertibird. I loved that toy. I bought a knock off of it a few years ago for my son.
For those who remember it, there is a guy who built a sim. Here is the link for it, http://www.peterhirschberg.com/vertisim/index.html Enjoy!

This is the one that started it all for me. Its a 20+ year old Competitor Pro. My dad bought it when I was a kid and never let me fly it until a few years ago. I only flew it a handfull of times though.

Though I don't have pics, you could probably do a google search for a Schluter HeliBoy 60 and find some pretty vintage shots. That was my first heli back in '75.
Mechanically mixed throttle and pitch, no gyro, so a tail rotor mix was needed. But I believe DuBro offered one before that.

I had one of the original Verti-birds also and being a Star Trek fan I had the Remco 1976 version of the Enterprise.
I didn't know they had so many versions.

I am gonna show my age hear but my first flying toy was the Johnny Astro. I picked one up off Ebay a few years ago but haven't took it out the box yet. A very neat toy, hovering without rotor blades :WOW

And one of these days I want a 1969 Midway Whirly Bird or Helicopter Trainer for my gameroom.
