The other day while flying my Raptor 30, my elevator servo just stopped working, as one might guess the chopper nosed over and went in. I have all JR DS821 servos witha futaba 9254 on the tail. Has anyone had anything like this happen with them and these servos?

Hey,

Yes, I had an equivelant JR DS811 go down on me in my Century Falcon 46 but I had been using them in the model for nearly 2 years flying 3D.
But I have seen a couple of others in my club along with reading many stories around the world of these going down very quickly.
As a cheap entry servo they are great but as soon as you can I'd suggest changing all of them on the major flight controls.

The 9254's are also not exactly renowned for their reliability, but I have used one on my Turbine Predator for 3 years now and only recently have sent it off for checking along with the gy401 which went down instead.

JR states 821s are only good up to 30 nitro and 50 electric sized helis.

They seem to tend to break the output shaft. Check the other thread.

I saw that after I posted, I am going to take this one apart and I will post if I find out what exactly happened. Thanks

Hey,

Your welcome.

As to a good replacement it really depends on how much you want to spend, the next step up I feel is the DS8231's which are very good and have been reliable to.
There is also the newly released Jr digitals like the DS8715 for instance which has a great spec, 12kg torque & 0.09 sec all @ 4.8 volts but you pay more for this spec.

Myself in the past I have favoured Futaba servo's, after using JR's in one Predator & Futaba's in another I felt the latter were better. But with new model servo's coming out all the time it's hard to find out whats the best without trying them all.
The JR is good if your not using a regulated system where you can run 6 volts to get the best performance out of the Futaba line.

The new'ish ACE/TT servo's are also rumoured to be quite good for their money, fast and powerful.
