View Full Version : Raptor 50 titan. Wich engine to choose?
Hi all.
I have set my mind on a Raptor 50 titan as my first nitro bird.
I can get a kit with a Thunder tiger .50 engine. for 50$ more i can get an engineless kit and buy a OS .50 hyper.
Would it be completely stupid to mount a OS .70 instead? Has a bit more power, almost the same RPM? The price tag is almost the same.

First OS 70 won't fit without serious and perhaps impossible modifications. The Thunder Tiger 50 does not have the power of the OS 50 Hyper, but it uses considerably less fuel. Both of these engines are being used at our club with good success. I installed a Hyper after my TT 50 wore out and I noticed a considerable increase in power and a considerable increase in fuel consumption.

Nope you need a motor mount. If you arent running a governor you need gears boom belt and blades too or you will over speed it and blow it up.

If the TT50 is anything like the TT37 I would stay away from it. Tuning my TT motor was a nightmare. I still never got it running right. After 2 stalls in the air, 1 forcing an auto and 1 wreck, I changed to an OS32. Much easier to tune and it flies great. My Titan has an OS50 Hyper and I love it. Tons of power and easy to tune.

Guys,
I ve been flying the Titan since June 06. I would say that the TT engine did served its best. I moved from hover to 3D tricks now. But last weekend, it finally show sign of wear. From the start till the end, the engine never had trouble starting up and i have no regret choosing the stock engine option.
I m running the following settings
GCT CF 620mm Main Blade
GCT CF 95mm Tail Blade
The TITan upgrade gear and pinion.
I did the norm 3d such as inverted flight, loops, rolls, funnels. The engine did struggle a bit, but it does deliver me some form of confidence.
So i would say goodbye to my TT soon, and have decided on the YS50 as my next Titan engine. The problem now is that its out of stock here.

me and 4 other guy's at my club are running os50 hyper's and all very happy
with them they do use a little more fuel but you just refill the tank after each
flight, 1 guy has got the tt50 in his machine it took a bit more time setting up
that engine it dose use less fuel than mine but you can see the tt50 has less power
compaired to the os50 hyper powerd ones...................... :smokin:

BUt for beginner who needs more stick time i would say stick to the TT for a while..but if u are a season 3D pilot, go for the power..

Run the hyper at a reasonable head speed and the fuel consumption is similar to the TT engine, why buy twice, get a good engine to start with, replacing a part "when you are ready to step up" such as an engine or good servos is just a waste of money and ends up costing more than doing it right the first time IMHO.
