Here is my first one.
Winds were really high, but finally got my mount setup to go out and try one.
I have a better lens hopefully on the way, so they should only get better.
Nothing great to look at, but I had about 20 minutes at lunch to run out and give it a shot.
Did it all solo, you can see me kneeling down flipping switches on the camera tx in the tx case while flying the heli also. :D

nice job for the first try. how fast did you have the mount set up to complete one 360° revolution?

Not really sure.
I can say I stitched 17 images, and my camera was clicking off 3fps, so right around 5 seconds.

Not bad for a first try!
What camera and lens are you using now?

Nice! Especially since you shot it with the Zenitar, that's a lot of stitching.
That lot looks familiar, reminds me of a car chase I saw one time.

Great shot especially for your early stages.
Did you mount the camera in portrait or landscape format?

Thanks Flyboy.
Portrait of course.
I think I am now up against the limits of the glass I have.
I need to order some new glass before things will get better.
Here is another one I shot today.

Thanks. You have to get on these. At the very least, try some ground ones. You'll learn a lot. Even handheld ground ones will teach you a lot.
I spent all winter shooting spherical panos from the ground and learning stitching and patching techniques so I'd be ready to go for spring with the heli.
I bought a 360 mount over the winter, and I had many, many, many, many, (did I mention many??) issues with my mount for doing these panos, and finally got it taken care of last weekend.
Now the game is on :D, I just have to break down and buy the $600 piece of glass to hang out there so things can get better.
They are not easy, they are a challenge, and picking the right exposure on the ground for what you need in the air is not always foolproof. But I am addicted to these panos now and shoot them everywhere I can, be it on the ground, and now in the air.

Just a thought,
Have you guys ever tried it with the canon 10-22?
its not a fish but its super wide. Not much fisheye effect anyway with the rebels cropped sensor.

Great shots, Scott!
Not looking for trade secrets but I can't get through my hard head - just how do you get that last verticle straight up shot? I assume the cam and mount are underslung. So, do you walk over and snap off one straight up from the ground?
I is a little slow sumtims... :? :dontknow :noteworthy

o, do you walk over and snap off one straight up from the ground?
I do believe that is how its done.
I've started to take straight up verticals whenever I see good skies. I have a huge collection of vertical sky shots with various differences in color, clouds, etc.
I figure when I get going on these sphericals and I have a trouble pano some of my stock sky shots may come in handy.... don't know if I'm wasting my time or not but at the least I have a sweet collection of skies ;)

I thought they were just fancy 3D pilots hovering inverted and snapping pics of the sky... :)
I haven't done one yet, but I plan on taking a ground shot of the sky. A collection of different sky shots sounds like a great idea too. It has been super foggy here lately(normal summer time) so I haven't been able to shoot much of anyting.
