I just finished my first 3 flights on my newly built 450SE V2. Flies great with absolutely no vibrations whatsoever, it's beautiful. Using Align 2100mah 22C batteries, the stock Align 35G ESC and the stock 430XL motor. 12 tooth pinion. 2100RPM headspeed. Stock Align CF blades.
After 3 flights, 3 minutes each, (going easy on batteries for first few flights), I landed, and checked the temperature on the back of the motor, it was 130F. I got the reading using a non-contact laser thermometer.
Is 130F reasonable? Too hot? I'm not sure if my gear mesh is too tight or not.

My 430XL runs anywhere from 125-145 measured on the windings after a flight depending on how hard I fly it.

I have a question about your headspeed. With a 12 tooth pinion, I'm seeing a lot more than 2100 with 325 carbon blades. Have you tached this recently?

I must have missed that. That can't be right unless you are running a very low throttle curve. I run 12 tooth and tached at over 3000 with a 95% flat curve.

My throttle curve is very low right now, I'm gradually bringing it up to at least 2800RPM, but this is only the first flight on each of my 3 battery packs, I wouldn't to go real easy on them. After another flight or two I'm bumping it up to 2800 or 3k.
So 130F is normal then?

Around 130 sounds normal to me. I have more than 100 flights on my motor with no signs of any problems.

my 450 xl runs stone cold . on 13t and i give it a hiding ...!
if it was the 600 xl ,and i flew it as agressive as my V2 it would be burning with smoke pouring out of the can.
i got a good one ....!!
