Electricity pylons and power lines. With Heli RCAP

Hi there has anyone been asked to do photos of these with RC AP? I have been approached by a large power company to do inspection shots. At the moment I dont know if its the big pylons or the street poles (Im hoping its the street poles). Anyway has anyone ever done pylons..is it possible? Will the 400kv plus associated electromagnetic fields make the RC go crazy?

Help!

It would be a great contract if I can get it, but I dont know if its possible.

If its the street poles I think I can do it with a Hastings Firestick pole and the camera head from my normal pole cam.

Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Ian

i've seen a few flying fields near power lines, pcm/dss systems are the way to go. but to be safe, test fly a small, non-ap heli first.

Our flying field was within 100 feet of a high-voltage transmission tower, (for several years before PCM hit the market), and we rarely had trouble with it. In fact, we had more trouble from the tug boats on the river, (about 300 feet the other side of the transmission lines), than anything else.

For those pictures, though, you'll be flying right up by the head - so your results could be dramatically different.

I helped a guy get setup while I was in Atlanta a couple years ago do just what you describe. Shots were from a tilting mount, no pan. Downlink to video monitor and two people, one flying, one describing whats needed in the shot.
It's a LOT harder than it would seem, aiming the camera by pointing the nose at the object and raising/lowering to get the shot framed. No issues with interference, but we were on 72Mhz. US AC power distribution is 60Hertz. Most shots were within 25 feet of the head of the poles to inspect top, crossarm, and insulators.
Lost touch with the guy a year ago, Can't say if he pursued it or not..
