Hi
Just setting up my heli (knight 50 sport) and have set up an idle up,

But when i switch on idle up the tail wags violently and the whole heli shakes alot. :dontknow and never managed to take off at all with it on idle.

I am running throttle curves on idle up of 85 80 70 80 85 because my hyper 50 has ony run 1 gallon of fuel.

Also does anyone know how 3d capable wood blades are on the knight 50 sport

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you have to make sure you gyro is not changing with your idle up.
What radio and what gyro? Might be coming out of heading hold or changing gain setting.

From my electric experience, one would usually switch to idle-up in flight. In the radio setup one has to make sure the throttle and pitch curves are pretty close at the hover point, where you would make the switch. Then there should be no violent change in RPM or pitch. Until you go upside down and need negative pitch, you don't need idle-up though.

FUntil you go upside down and need negative pitch, you don't need idle-up though.

Ignoring the Negative pitch I would say you would be better off using an Idle up during normal Hover etc.

Why

When descending in normal mode you drop the trottle causing the revs to drop due to the curve. In Idlle you drop the pitch but the throttle will keep up at peak revs (ignoring over reving) keeping the power in the disk to climb out again in case it goes tits up :D

Also, someone mentioned in the Trex 450 thread, check the trim settings are close in normal and idle-up, but the problem is likely the gyro like Rodney mentions.

This is more a general question, but I was wondering, with a nitro heli and a governor, is it most common to spool up, switch to idle-up, and let the governor take over on the ground before take off, or in flight? I guess one can do both...

Preference really. With the Trex I switch to Idleup on the ground. With the Nitros I switch to idle up 1 at mid stick - hover then switch the govenor on and then switch from idle 1 to 2 (1600rpm and 1750 rpm respectivley on the Shuttle)
