I am having some problems with the tail rotor binding. My tail rotor binds at full throws, and when i lower the throws the binding lessens but is still present. However at full throw or reduced throw the tail rotor does not return to neutral. It "sticks" a little to the left if I use left rudder, and i have to give it a touch of right to return it to center, and vice versa. Someone told me you have to use a fine grit sand paper to hone out the brass bushing a little. Any suggestions?

What I did was to secure it and take the main blades off, spin up the heli at various speeds, and use some 100 weight shock oil and just keep working the tail sliders back and forth with the radio until it starts working better it won't take long. Once that black coating on the shaft wears in some the whole thing works good.
Then when you are done with that take the same oil and put a light coating on the belt it will keep it happy and will last a bit longer too.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if you had problems in flight with it like that or not. I will try the oil and running it for a while before the first flight. I found that I think part of the problem is also with the ball link that connects the slider. Not really sure, but I reamed it out a hair so its still tight, but moves a little more freely. I am also wondering if any others had the same problem. Thanks for the advice and any other suggestions would still be helpful.

Oh yeah the stickiness would drive 401 gyro nuts, but I lucked out on the plastic ball link, it worked good right off the bat. Another thing I did to get rid of the wire push-rod and get a uH TRex CF push rod, what a difference that made, but in a dozen or more flights I dumped the stock tail and got a uH TRex precision tail unit, it has a bit more throw and smoothness to it. When I put my MX together I noticed some binding on the links and the slider on the tail. I put some white grease on everything and it worked itself out.

I just got mine yesterday. It's the ARF kit from Tower. I noticed the same binding issue. As I examine it, it looks to be a combination of the new shaft that needs broken in and some pretty extreme linkage angles at full throws. I'll be greasing the snot out of it and working it in and hopefully that'll help, but it's definitely not going up into the air until it's better.

Can you get just the shaft and is it a drop-in, or do you have to replace the whole gearbox? Is the pitch slider compatible or is there a better part for a Trex?
