Cant see you getting a nut in there, but a drop of CA when you replace the bolt should secure it.

I'm ready to buy my servos i need some input.
Hitec hs-635 or futaba s3152
which is a better servo?

Flew my hurricane for the first time out back tonight.
I did a complete tear down and rebuild as per finless' vids, including the head links.
Spooled it up, got it airborne. Didn't even have to touch the trims, it was nice and level.
Super quiet. The blades were in track too.
I am using a TP prolite 7.4/2100 for my RX pack, it balances out the heli.
I only flew for a couple of mins, (getting dark), but I was impressed with the feel. I had the woodies on for the first flight, an I think that I will need more head speed to get it where I want it.
thanks again Bob

I fitted the 3152 servos. Haven't flown it yet as I have fried a balance lead and have to wait till some new ones show up. And yes I stuffed up connecting the 2 packs in series. Batteries and me not damaged luckily.

Hi Piranha,
I just ordered the Hurricane kit :D Can't wait to get it in the air. My calculator was smoking lately.... Hurricane or trex600. But no matter what..the trex600 is out of my budget for now.
As for news from Bob...look here:

I think he still has some plans ;-)

Piranha, are you kidding? Heli is apart putting on metal parts :)
When it goes back together expect some RIPPIN videos!
I have just been SUPER BUSY at work again and trying to get the e620 videos done so I can spend more time on this heli.... Trust me.... Interest is NOT lost :)

My all metal head is now fitted including the latest flybar cage part; the metal parts are excellent (even better value when you look at their price compared to other vendors).
As belt and braces, I have replaced one or 2 screws with slightly longer ones to be absolutely sure of a good fit and also used the metal arms set for straight servo horns. I've also switched to using lightweight Raptor paddles as a cheap experiment - the red ones really do look the part next to the stock red and white canopy.
As for power setup, I have my TT Ripper 30 motor in my hand, but I'm waiting for the 5S packs to arrive from United Hobbies before I can fit it.
Expect a flight report next week for the metal head with 515 NHP Razor Pro's on the stock motor, followed by the 5S and Ripper 30 upgrade the week after.

Hi Guys I'm really happy that you don't lost interest!!! Maurice, welcome to Hurricane club :)
Bob, I have already install all metal upgrade (don't forget to install small spacer between bearing in mixer arms, I did first time :arggg: ) also I have carbon 515 MS Blades and 475 MS fiber blades and short downgrade kit waiting for test fly! Also now I have all motor pinions, new fp 2170 25C Packs, reassembled DeWalt A123 Pack and some other stuff :)
Still need some adjustments but hope tomorrow I'll make some fly

Had my Hurricane out today. This vid is the 4th flight on the machine.
It flies really good. I am very impressed. The stock motor is ok, I am running the. 14T pinion that came with the kit. I will try a bigger pinion too.
My head speed is around 1775, which is pretty low. 2000 HS would rock.
After a 3.5 min flight, the batts, motor and esc were just a little warm, all around 80F. I only put 900mah back into the packs too.
Have a look

Bob,
First off my sincere thanks to you for all your time you have put into the video work you have done and shared with so many of us. My hat is off to you. :D
Now then, in your second flight video of the Hurricane 550 you were using a set of Mikado blades. What blades were you using?
Thanks much,
Carl

Bob, I can't wait to hear what your motor / pinion combo is going to be. I am sure that I will be needing a little more power. The machine itself is really solid in the air. Just need some more punch.

Stay tuned.... might be another week and I am trying to finish the e620 videos first.
First try I will be using my 600+ motor from my Swift on 6S (two 2170 packs)

I was out flying with my friend today, he has a swift with that motor. I was also thinking of trying that motor too. Did you manage to fit the motor on the Hurricane? I didn't measure it, but it looked a little big to fit between the 2 front controls.

I finally put the Miniature Aircraft 3D Paddles on my Hurricane. These paddles are about 15% larger, a few grams heavier and have a thinner airfoil than the stock paddles.
The heli has retained its nice flying qualities but I now have a noticeable improvement in cyclic response. It rolls faster and now I can do reasonable forward and backwards flips. It is a nice improvement for an $8.00 cost.
I may be trying a Z-20 980 KV next. I have not been disappointed with the Gaui motor, but I am only running + or – 10% of pitch.
I have 52 flights on this thing and the only maintenance I have done is to secure the tail ball link screws in with CA. My Hurricane has proven to be a fun and reliable machine.

I have a Ripper 30 motor waiting to go in mine (same as the Z30 and Century 600+) and have eyeballed the fit. Looks perfect. It is close to the control arms as you suggest, but there is enough clearance... I'd say it is the same diameter as the stock Gaui one.
Worst case scenario, you might need a 1-2mm spacer behind the control arms and a longer screw to secure, but my gut feeling says it will fit stock.

If your talking about a Ripper Outrunner Heli OBL 43/11-30H, then it fits exactly as the can diameter is the same at 43mm. I am going to experiment with this motor using the standard gears, this should in theory give a 10-15% increase in head speed, hopefully without stripping any gears.

Kev,
I am glad to hear that that motor fits. I put a nut on the back of the screw that go through the control arms. So I would have to put spacers behind the Control arms.
Just hope that motor doesn't draw too many amps that will kill our 2 battery packs.
A friend suggested to me that if I keep my pitch with in reason, prolly +/- 10 that it might be ok running that motor. He runs that motor in his swift and it is a rocket ship, but he is running an Evo 6s pack. He ditched his swift yesterday, so I am going to try that motor in my Hurricane later this week.
I am excited to ditch the stock motor, which doesn't seem to be the best motor for 3D in this heli.
Still a great heli at the price.

Indeed I am... this motor is the same as the Z30 and Century 600+... all are manufactured by Z Power... some then rebadged :) It did look like it was a very similar size... my eyeball is seriously good at this estimate stuff :)
BTW, that motor on 6S will seriously scare you... a friend has one in his Swift and even on 5S the power if awesome. I also expect it to kill smaller packs.
My proposed setup (waiting batteries to arrive) is the Ripper 30 1100kv on 5S 4400 (2 x 5S 2200 in parallel) using the 16T pinion. Estimated head speed is 2076, or on the 15T pinion 1944.

I know that you are using the dx7 with ds821 servos
I had one output shaft on the servo shere off in hover luckily no damage to heli
I am curious If you or anyone knows where I could secure some replacement gears
I have searched all the forums to find out if the JR ds 821 and the spectrum ds 821 servos are the same but found no answers
Thanks Mark

Hi,
I have a Z-POWER Z30 in my hurricane, it comes up to tight with the chassie so i took my dremmel and solved the problem. Just for safety i put in a small washer between the controlarms and the chassie, and a longer screw - but the motor fits without this mod.
Hurricane becomes a freakin rocket with this motor! I love it with 6S
