As Pincone mentioned, efficiency factor has to be calculated, i use 0,9.
So with 15t on motor and 61t on second and take off 10% on a 22.2v the HS should be around 2600rpm, with a throttle output of 85% you should have approx 2200rpm
and with 18,5V the max should be around 2200rpm on 100% output, this configuration is what I want to try, but I'm not an electrician and have little experience of these things, so any comment's are mostly welcome!
Fly well!

That is the problem I have.. I dont like running a outrunner with reduced curves! My personal opinion. They seem to like to be run at max power or within 10%. AND I agree with the 80% rule I was just giving the RAW numbers.
Hey! Try it and let us know but I think the KV is too high.

Hi Guys I've just returned from the field with Z20 1700kV motor on 7S A123 pack,(2.7V-2.4V under load) 61/14 gears, what can I say? on 80-90% throttle it sounds scary :) I do some climb outs, rolls and flips and loops, Motor runs a little bit warm, but Align75 ESC and pack were hot after the flight(especially ESC), I thing that i need 1450 motor for the setup :dontknow
Also I found one problem after switching from stock woodies 500 to MS CF515 blades, tail began to drift(401+9254) especially in Idle up :( :arggg: It seems that tail blades now is not so efficient and maybe I need to change it for Raptor's o Trex 600's, what do you guys think????????

Does the tail hold? If it is just drift but the tail holds then I doubt tail blades will fix that..... I am thinking noise or vibes is effecting the gyro? Did this start to happen after JUST changing to CF blades or also the new motor etc?

Hi Uncle Bob :)
The tail is moving slowly into the right(opposite the main rotor spinning)
Its hard to say when it started, i was thinking that it begins when after the crash I switched to short boom, but today I put old long boom(little bit repaired so it has some small dents causing belt vibes) and it does not helped!

I have seen this before on 401's when they are getting RF noise from ESC, motor, or even a bad bearing near the gyro! I have seen 3 Trex600's exhibit this problem from the tail drive bearings and even a bad swash plate bearing!
Moving the gyro back away from the bearings usually solved it.
It can also be a vibration.
The bottom line is if the tail holds in manuvers but drifts in hover then it's has been my experience that if the tail is set up right, then something outside of the gyro is causing this OR just a bad gyro. Do you have another gyro you can try to at least eliminate that?

Thanks Bob for advice, unfortunately I have not another gyro now :(
But you r right, I need to double check tis gyro (I've bought it used and it was fixed after meeting hith blades on rex450, but it was OK during my flights on wooden blades) I have another thought-CF blades Looks little bit heavier than wooden so they have much inertia moment and maybe thats why tail could not deal with it?! (once again sorry for my English :( )

After my first test with this combination, Z20 1700KV 61/15 5S 4000mAh Pack. 535 carbon main blades
First great HS (2200) very responsive, no issues with temperatures, due to the fact I run with 100% throttle output on 18,5v, but flight time was shorter, about 2-2.30 minutes shorter, compared to the same set up with a Z20 1470, the head speed is 250rpm lower with the 1470 and 15t 1950rpm, with the 16t pinion it would be 2000rpm, this also with 18,5v.
Conclusion, so far. the Z20 1700 is not a good motor to use on a full sized Hurricane, it might work fine if the hurricane is mounted with the "shrink" kit, i.e. shorter tail boom and shorter main blades.
So go for either the Z20 980Kv; Z20 1470Kv or Z30 1100Kv.
If you want to be able to increase flight time a 5S Pack 4000-4300mAh is the way to go, other packs wont fit under the canopy, (if not modified), Z20 1470Kv or Z30 1100kv is god motors for such a combination.
on a Z20 1470kv with 1900rpm HS I get 10minutes of active flight time
and 1650rpm and slow fligt figure 8 style, gives me 12 minutes on the timer.

Thanks Patrik & Bob for your comments.
The lipos are brand new (they came with the Hurricane) so I dont think they are the cause of the problem, but I could have a duff cell. Unfortunatly I dont have a great deal of experience with escs - I cut my teeth on nitros, so I ussually just use the default settings for electric helis. I followed the basic set up instructions for the esc (throttle to max to set throttle range, then set to lipo & heli without gov). Is this the best setting?
Also, does anyone know a way to disable the cut-off on the esc - I could just time my flights instead.
Thanks
Simon

OK I had cut out if I had it set up for 2-3. I used 2-4 and cut out were gone.

Hi Bob
So I should use governer mode then?
Sorry for being a bit slow but I've never used governer before - how does it work?
Thanks

Here is a video of me doing my first time ever Piro-flips :D
My hurricane is powered with a Z-POWER Z30.. And as you can see i have no problems with stripping gears, unless i do Hard Tic-Tocs.. The main gear obviously has no problem with this kind of flying ...

Well there is a debate if the 2-4 is governor or not! My updated instructions say 2-4 is not gov mode! My testing leads me to beleave that is correct and 2-3 is gov mode. Anyway doesnt matter I couldnt get the ESC to stop cutting on my in 2-3. in 2-4 it worked fine and I set for 100% idle up curve.

No thats what I am talking about! Some power :)
Whats the setup?
blades? pinion? pack size and volts? gearing?
Thanks,

According to the spec. sheet - the Align's 75A ESC supports an input voltage between 5.5V~25.2V. That would be 6S max. ESC - Didn't know it can handle more than 6S !!! Thks Piranha for sharing this info. Now I want to get an ALign 75A ESC (its not cheap but lower cost to others ) to handle a 7S setup. I plan to use 4S + 3S li-po to get 7S to power my new hurricane 550 with the stock motor.
Any advice from anyone against this setup ?

The heli is stock setup with all the beutiful plastic parts and the GAUI 50A ESC, no problems with heat or cutoffs.. :)
Blades : Carbon 535 - weight: 210 gram/each ! Thats heavy but obviously very good for this setup!
Pinion: 14T (Gives me 2200-2300 in headspeed, measured 2200 last weekend but that was with cold and old packs)
Gear: Stock (41? or is it 42)..
Battery-pack : 2 x MAXAMPS 3S 3000mah (new coppercore) .. These packs are wonderful, after this flight i put back 2100 mah.. When i cycled them i actually can put back 3600mah which means i dont have to worry about unloading 3000mah..

Oh No, I use A123SYSTEMS LiFe 7S Bats they have little bit lover voltage (3.6Vper pack, unloade)
So 7x3,6=25.2 exactly like 6sLiPo !!!

Looks like the verdict is out? What motor, and battery would I need to get a good strong 4 minute flight? 1 more question who stocks this kit in the U.S?

Great videos, So now that youve had this 550 for a while what do you think of it? I just have a MT E325 at the mo and I am looking for a larger size heli, love the T Rex 600 but batterys are the killer for me (UK price 200 pounds!!) So this seems a good buy.
Thanks Kam.

I think this heli has a lot of potential so I like it myself.
I still have not gotten the time to sup mine up yet though I have all the parts to do it. As you can see people are still playing around with different motors and packs. I wish to stick with running 2 Trex450 packs (actually 2 Evo25 2500 packs) and find a good power system there as I think a lot of people will want that setup.
Later I will look at other setups.
Charlie from Rotorworkz now has a kit and he and I plan on doing a G10 frame for this heli with direct to swash servos and alternative battery mounting. So expect some exiting things to come for this heli.
Yes Align is coming with a 500 heli as well but I think this heli will still have a market as it will be a little bigger than the Align and cheaper :)

That G10 frame sounds sweet Bob. Should have mine ready for maiden this weekend. I also hope to keep mine on 2 Trex packs, as some of my planks also use that size battery. Maybe move up to 2500mah size packs and the Z30 motor, I'm hoping that will keep me happy.
