Bob - Do you know what Diode that use? Most common silicon diodes cause a .7V drop...so 6v in would result in 5.3v out.

Yea I think that is it.... Also trhe Align reg really puts out 5.8V so the drop really is close to 5.1

Shauntot, in the UK we can buy the reg without the BEC... not sure about in the US, but Flying Hobby do them as well:

AdrianM, the diode is a standard 0.7V drop silicon diode, this drops 5.8V to 5.1V which is close enough for the servo (remember if you were running 4 cell NiMh it would likely be a bit more 4.8V when fully charged anyway).
As for the choice of diode, anything capable of handling the current to the servo. I'd imagine for a fast digital tail servo like the 9254 around 2A stall current?

Hi Guys
Have been lurking in thread for a while now, alot af useful information when building my Hurricane. I have huge problems with my 401 gyro, I can't get is stop drifting. I have a Hitec HS-6965 servo for the tail, linkage is smooth as silk, main blades are balanced. Link is mounted 10 mm from center of servo, limot is set to 110, delay 0. Not even if i increase the gain via the radio to 100 I get rid of the drift, even if I at that high gain get tail wag. Gyro is mounted on one Futaba gyro tape.On the ground, with the motor stopped, everything looks great. When the gyro is set to HH, I can see that it wants to bring the tail back to the initialized position at no rudder stick input. As soon as I start the motor, the tail starts drifting right. Not fast or so, but a slow drift, it would take it like 30 secs to make a full turn. I would guess that the cause of the problem is vibrations of some kind, but im out of options what to check or do. HAs anyone experienced similar problems on the Hurricane or another bird? How to get rid of it?
I'll be thankful for any tips
/Lars

Yeah a 2A would do it. You just run it in line on the positive wire, right?

Yes Adrian, in the red. If you fit it the wrong way around, then the servo simply won't work, so easy to test for correct polarity.

Calli: The brand of batteries im using is "Ultimate Power" Its a Swedish webshop that sells them, and I think its a brand of theirown.
The cells are 18-25C (57.6A cont and 80A burst) and whey 540g togheter.
Its nice for sportsflying and not hard 3D.
I use a 3A silicone diode for the 9254, works grate with the original 5.8 bec.
No problem so far.

@dadde: Thanks! Maybe I missunderstood you: Is is a 6s pack or 2 times 3s packs?
My initial question was if it is possible to use a 6s pack instead of 2x 3s packs. My guess was that you have to build your own battery tray in that case.

How can I guess if a offer offers a recent kit?
Do all new Kits include a external BEC?
What are the other differences?
Best Regards,
Carsten

Email the supplier and ask. All of the Hong Kong Shops have new kits only. I suspect the new US distributors would have onlt received new kits too.
There are diffrent levels of kits. Just read what is included with the package you are buying and pick the one you want.
I got the heli and motor only as I want to used my own speedo, motor and radio gear.

skaross/bob - thanks guys, ill pick up one of the align becs to get the regulator, unfortunately they dont sell it separately here. ill just sell of the bec.

Hello Guys,
First of all thanks for the tips on the loops and roll stuff.
As you all know the hurricane comes with wooden blades. Untill the CF blades arrive, i want to keep flying the woodies. But this thread got me worried a bit:
http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=39696
It's from the t-rex-600 neighboors overhere. I wonder if it applies to the hurricane as well.
I'm running stock set-up so headspead is not that high (1800 in my case)
The woodies make a lot of noise during flips nd rolls and so on....but until this moment i never tought of them to be more of a risk compared to cf blades.
Would like to hear you opinions.
Thanks,
Maurice
B.t.w. I know this is a build thread. So i'm not sure if it belongs here. Maybe open a new thread for hurricane experiences?

In my opinion, other than the Trex450, woods on larger helis should be for learning to hover and FF... Start doing 3D stuff and your taking a risk. Not going to say they will fail on you but I wouldnt take the risk myself.

Wood has the same tensile strength no mater how much wood you have. So when you look at centrifugal force at the root pulling at the grain of the wood the more weight you have the lower the speed has to be to keep the wood from snapping with the grain. With the 450s the blades are soo light that the tensile strength of the wood fibers are well beyond what we are running the blades at.
I hope that explains the wood blade thing.

I have upgraded my Hurricane 550 with a Z-POWER A20-980kV motor. I am thinking about replacing the stock blades with C.F. Would I be better off with the 550mm or should I go with something smaller (500-525mm). BTW, my setup is 2 x 3S 2200mah 20C rating with stock 50A ESC.

Use the 500mm carbom blades for the Mikado Logo 10. They are really nice and not too expensive. 550mm will put a high load on the batts. Smaller 450-475mm blades would be good too.

Calli: Sorry if I was unclear, its 2x3s 3200. Not a 6s1P. But if you do modify the battmount you wont have a problem I do belive.

Hi,
I use the 515 carbon from www.DerBlattSchmied.com they are inexpensive and work great!
@Finless:
Pleeeeease, give us our own room for H550! There are over 1000 posts regarding this heli and growig. It would be much better to read than searching things at a 18 page Fred!
Thanks in advance and best from rainy Lake Constance

@Azurra: Hmm, I thought that the Hurricane 550 has 10mm blade grips? The only 515 blades I found at Blattschmied are 12mm, so I guess I was wrong and can buy the fine Blattschmieds again ;-)

Hi,
I didn't measure, to be honest, but I even have one Spacer per blade in!

I'm running 515 NHP Razor Pro's in my metal grips and they fit perfectly with no spacers.
These are listed as a 12mm blade, so Hurricane grips are obviously 12mm, and the stock wood blades, 10mm with spacers required.

I agree with Carsten, would be nice with dedicated room for hurricane, longer term this thread will become impossible to manage and follow !!
