I see you got the heavy artilery. I just bought aligs's BEC 3A max with voltage reducer for the tail. Hope it does the trick. I see we both got the same servos and gyro. Please report how it goes after first few flights. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some good weather up there. :)
I'll be catching up on Bob's builds, as my hurricane didn't arrive yet, but that didn't stop me from ordering raptor ball links and rods

I bought a ste of the Mikado 500mm blades from Readyheli.
I am sure you can find them in Europe.

They also fit the grips without any spacers needed.

Bob,
I am seriously thinking of buying one of these. Found a great deal. My question is now that you have had a chance to go through this bird a little, what spare parts would you suggest would be smart to buy right away along with the bird? Great job on the vids by the way!!

I've been flying mine with the ds821 spektrum servos and the round wheels for about 3 months now. Actually just set up another one in about 4 hours the other day with the 475 blades and shorter tailboom. I just used the center hole on one side and the far left or right hole on the other depending on how it lined up. This last one I built took only a few clicks of trim and it was perfect.
Oh, build tip from me. CA the screws on the tail pitch balls, the one at the rod and the one at the slider. I lost 1 on the maiden flight of the 475 ship. Luckly it was only 6 inches off the ground...

I am flying a set of Mikado 500mm blades on my Hurricane and they work very well.

Even up to 535mm blades work well, thats what I am using.
I think the new 515mm blades that are comming out will be perfect for the Hurricane.
Tonight I will change the links to raptor links, to get the right delta.
I have been flying the Hurricane for about 4 months now, and mine have over 100 flights on it. So, i havenīt noticed much of a problem with the stock setup. But offcourse the way Bob describes are the better way to get even pos/neg pitch.
Thanks Bob (for forcing me to make these changes hehe :D :D ).
But I worked thrue all the links as soon as I got the heli, this is absolutly nessesary, and this goes for all helicopters. They fly so much better if the links are free. So, if you havenīt allready, get a balllink sizer tool and work thrue thoose links!

Anyone know where to find a 12,13,17,18 T pinion, with modulus 0.8M?
This is what the stock Hurricane pinions are.

One thing about the links, are everyone abolutly sure about this, that the upper mixerlever should be horizontal when at 0 degree pitch? I was reading some old setup tips for XCELL (same head) , and then this was not so. The important thing was that the long rod from the swashplate was 90 degree to the top mixer lever, while at 0 degree pitch. And the long rod is not vertical, its paralell.
After a quick look, the stock setup is like this. So, are you guys sure about the top mixer arm?

Well it's what I call a link delta (different than a MA head delta though) and yes it can change things and there are trade offs. If you make the long link 90 (bell input) then your hiller link (the short link) will have a difference I prefer having no difference in BELL mix.
Here is a test you can do and decide what you like.
When I had the arm like the manual I noticed I was getting more postive pitch than negative. Thats one thing.
In BELL cyclic input I was noticing one blade was getting more pitch than and the other blade on full aileron diflection. e.g. one blade had +6.5 and the other had only -6. Of course this is with the flybar kept level. Thats not a good thing in my opinion.
Making them level gave me the same bell cyclic and the difference on hiller was un-noticable.
Now the mixer arm on the Hurricane blade grip is 1 to 1. I am not sure that is true on the XCELL which is possibly why they want the difference removed. Do you have any picture or the manual for an XCELL so I can have a look see?

FYI, I asked Terry Moore and DavidH for thier opinion on this since they probably have more experience with this type of head. Lets see what they have to say.

FYI, DavidH responded to me that he sets up his MA helicopters like I show in my video. That is, the mixer arm is level at 0 pitch of the blade grip.
Also I used the term "delta" in the video. This is not the same delta as MA has on thier grips. I use the term delta when ever an arm and a link are not 90 to each other. This term I learned long ago with planks etc so sorry of that confuses anyone. Again this is not the same term used on the MA grip arms.

For those looking for alternative blades, just maidened mine with Evolution 480mm carbon blades off an Eco 8. Flies like a dream.

Tom Viper...
After talking with a few folks and doing testing myself almost ALL DAY TODAY, I am certain it is far better to have the mixer arms level on the grips. So much so that having them as the un-adjustable links provided is actually a serious problem do to the differential pitch on the Bell mixing.
So I stand by my video telling you to set up this way!

Thanks Bob, that what I wanted to hear! I was starting with the links change last night and will hopefully test fly it today. Hopefully my hurricane will perform even better after this.
Well, I am not an expert on head setups, and seeing all thoose diffrent setup posibilities this head has, makes you wonder what they all do.
Here is the setup I was reffering to, its not the XCELL, its the new AVANT 3D heli. And as you can see, the lever is not horizontal at 0 degree pitch.
This is why Iīm asking it you are absolutly sure.
Finless
03-29-2007, 01:50 PM
Tom, as I said it might be because the mixer arm ball locations on the Avant are not 1 to 1 (kind of looks like they are not).
Also if you remove the mixer arm fromt he hurricane you will see the arms pivot point is NOT center of the head. It has what the MA guys call a Negative Delta. The Avant looks to be a positive delta (not centered and more towards the grip). THis maybe why they want it that way and in fact may give them even Bell mix pitch?
So I am no expert here either and since you brought this up I have been asking questions like this and so far everyone asnswers you want the mixer arem level at 0 pitch (The MA guys say that anyway). My testing of Bell mix pitch shows uneven pitch if the mixer arm is not level which to me doesnt seem right.
Anyway at this point all I can suggest is trying it. Please let me know if you notice any difference or not. I set up my Swift and my Dragonus with level arms (same head design) and they both fly great.

Have just finished setting up the head and installing the new adjustable short links, one thing I have noticed is that the main shaft is not perpendicular when this machine is on its skids. Use a bubble on top of the main shaft.
