Bob

FYI on the ESC

If it is the V1 ir erly V2 when if your 6C setup is really strock and you running the esc with auto discover you might see the flight time being only 2min, the ESC will thing you have an 7C not 6C.

Also if you change the settings and dissable the autodiscover function and not using the governor mode.

When after you have removed the batteries the ESC will go back to default it will not store your old settings.

Acording to GAUI, the new ESC's V2.1 or newer do not have that issue.

Second the elevator lever is one of the parts that is not so strong.

We had one case where we did run out of power and landed the heli hard but not to hard and one of the rotor blades did hit the ground and continued to turning that did shater the lever.

So when ever you can i recomend to upgrade that to the CNC part that will be out.

Also run the heli on at least 2350mHA up to 3300mHA and you have super good bird

Cheers

We have run close to 100 flights on the Hurricabe 550 now and we did also try it with the Align 600 motor..........WOW.

Talking about a rocket, you can out run any gas motor with that setup.
But the batery life is not good also the wear on the gears are hard.

If you change the second gear from the 42T (front Gear) to the 61T that way you have a better setup.

Super amount of power.

With 3300mAH batteries about the same flight time as you have with the stock motor on 2 2200mHA batteries.

But the responce is asum.

Cheers

HOw do you tell which ESC you have? There is no versaion number on it?
I do believe I got one of the latest kit as it has the steel pinion and larger auto clutch.

Thanks for the tips!

The kit you have is the latest version Bob. The initial Esc issue was with the early versions, which had a built in Bec.

Not True.

You had a Version with the new gears and without the build in BEC that had issue's i got over 5 of them plus you can see on a diffrent forum people has had tha issue.

So be carefull

Best way is to change the setting to not be aotomatic detect and then unplug the battery and plug it back in.

If it kep the programing then you have the new one

Not True.

Backman, whilst i havent physically seen the kit Bob recieved, i was assured that it woud be the "latest" version and i have no reason to dispute that at this time. I was also told that the issue of esc failures only affected the early ones with built in bec. Guess time will tell, but in good faith i say what i believe is true

I have searched a lot of forums looking for these reported failures and given the number of kits out there and the number of reported esc failures which is very low to date, I have not as yet seen anythiing to be overly alarmed about and this is from someone who has personally had 3 fail - 2 otter and 1 Align on my other helis. In an ideal world the manufacturer's would make everything perfect 1st time around.

Anyway, if you do detect any issues with the stock Esc Bob, please be sure to let me know so i can take it up with Gaui directly.

Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build :)

I guess I'm just thick headed, but where do you buy this heli? I went to the links above, one is just a link to a ebay store with nothing in it, and the other link didnt seem to have it listed for sale. :dontknow

Right now you have to buy from Asia.

www.flying-hobby.com

www.infinity-hobby.com

The other two will be selling in North America shortly, at least that is what they say. Flying Hobby has a pretty good reputation for service.

Yea I did a little ashow and tell at the field last weekend :)
Trooper got to see it with others.

I got hung up this week with my job so didnt get much more done other than going over the thing and planning my video sessions. BUT I will start Monday night.

I know this is a simi ARF but the first segment will be about the frames and then I will take them frames apart and go over them. This will do 2 things. #1 help people should they need to service the bearings, gears, etc later, and #2 allow you to see how it goes together :)
People buying these WONT have to do this but I will probably reccomend it in my video just to make sure everything is right and to LEARN how it goes together.

So that will be the first segment.

Ok Bob! Waiting the next part!!!! :)
Another thing I found today that the front(41t) gear, shaft and autorotation assembly has a small play, In other words I can move it up and down 1mm, maybe it is necessary to put additional spacer over the autorotation gear? so take it into consideration!

Neat! Thanks Bob. I tore mine down to the "maximum parts count" as well and reassembled it when I received it - old habit from over 35 years as an engineer. Looking forward to the series of videos.

Andreas

The 550 is sweet heli.

Built well and in the initial cost it is a lot less

I asume you have a Trex 450 or simular

That way you can reuse the cells without killing your self on charger and batteries

The cost diffrence if you have charger and cell's is 500-600+ dollars

Without cell & charger still 300-400 diffrence

My coment is if you like to step up the 550 is a steal, then after you are used to the motor upgrade to the Z30 and you have a wild animal

Contact Thomas at ezfly.se and he can help you out or any of us othere here in us/ca can help you
