Hey,

my recently updated sweetheart: Infinityhobby.com CF frame, 500 Torsion blades and CF skids from heli-pro.de, Fusuno canopy (which sucks...)

Hey Emphaser, Those skids looks pretty fancy... Are they worth to use in terms of landing stability and crash-survival? Are they better that t-rex 600 landing gear? I can see already they are much more expensive :smokin:

Aleks,

fortunately I got the skids "used" (as good as new...) from a online board user, so i just didn't pay the full price! Indeed, not cheap stuff. A Revo is much bigger than our 550 (4000gr weight, 1586mm rotor!), so the skids are build to resist more impact than a 550 usually is responsible for :) As far as I see these skids are wider than the 600s (tell me their width, I do not have some!), starting "in the wild" is no problem at all :)

Thanks for the info, Emphaser. Your skids look really great! I like that! But, they are really expensive :( congradulations on good deal!
I cant't tell you size of T-rex 600 skids now, because heli is around 2 hours away from me... 2 hours away by Boeing 737 :YeaBaby:

We'll I got my (huge) Readyheli black friday order and got tons of 550 parts. I was able to upgrade some of my head parts as you can see in the pic. I still need the cnc grips, and washout assembly. I also got some kbdd 92mm tail blades and 500 / 50 paddles. found those paddles may be too small, so put on the Gaui lightweights for now. Also the trail fin is a CHP set for a Hirobo, very strong and looks pretty cool IMO. I put on the 500 woodies for now. Now all I need is an ESC and I'll be able to maiden it.

Oh, and the plastic 2piece canopy will have to go just as soon as I get a better one, it'll have to do for now.

1 shot w/kbdd paddles, 1 with the stock Gaui 550 lightweights

tail, the CHP Hirobo fin is super sturdy, and looks great.

im also looking for scale things, like scale skids, door handles, exhaust pipes, maybe search light, antenna's....you know, all the little things that make it more real!

here's my frankenstein, 550, 12S , torque tube. Now just waiting to get my hands on a HeadHunter frameset so i can do a HH 500 TT setup

She's only just has a maiden hover and hopefully won't be too long to get all sorted and sweet. Will report as she comes along.

Cheers

Hey man, your setup looks great! But do you find any advantage of torque tube over belt?

Just had a quick 5 min hover,so personally can't say. But have been told from (GlobalRCHobby) i should expect an extra min flight time due to the better efficency. We had some tail wag which i'm sure is just radio settings, so hopefully next time at the field we can get closer to getting her right

is there any way to post a pic from the side with the blades extended? I'm curious to see if the blades overlap the tail blades at all with the torque tube installed.

mystic , i hope these help. There are more so just yell out if needed.
Also i am running trex600 hub/grips and 92mm blades.

I put the blade holder on there to try and give some sort of reference. From the end of the frame to start of the tailbox, it is the same length as the stock 550 boom( approx 570mm).

looks close.. but also looks like I should clear..let us know who well the TT gears stand up to minor contact...

Torana, what did you use to convert to TT? Is that the GAUI metal TT case and gears? Which boom and tube are those?

Gaui TT case and gears, front and back. Had to drill 2 holes on each frame to drop the bearing holder lower and added a shim to take out any play.( i think can be seen in the pics). David at GlobalRCHobby did the booms for me so unfortunatly can't say atm what they are. The 500 bladed TT uses the Gaui 550 boom and the 550 bladed one is non-original. I'm thinking hirobo? Basically it's 50mm longer than the Gaui 550 boom. I haven't buckled one yet so havent had to cut a tube to get inside dimensions but am thinking cut down trex. David would be the one to ask Sales@GlobalRCHobby.com.au

wow what a setup! that thing is gonna rock with the HH frame for sure! although i'm wondering if you'll still be able to go 12s with it because of the narrower frame (and therefore no pack in-between the frame sides)
i'm wondering- why 12s? and what kind of flight times are you expecting?

12S basically to be real easy on the batts but mainly (in theory) should be unboggable. Will see about that hopefully this weekend.Fingers crossed on the gears holding. Flight times of 8,9 odd hard flying minutes, but my brain can only manage about 5 of hovering. At the field bench setup time + the one 6min maiden hover with multiple climb outs it has had resulted in 950mah put back into the 2700 packs.Hopefully will get it dialed in and one of the more experienced guys i fly with will give her a workout.

Can't wait for the HH set to arrive. Will then see which way we go.12S,if possible or raid the bits off the plastic 6S setup.Trying to avoid that as it is now all sorted and a real rocket and my fav.

12s may be hard to fit... however i have an idea:

1) cut off the bottom 1/3 of the cf battery tray (the part that sticks out in the front... see pic)
2) mount one lipo on the main tray and the other where the esc goes

however... you may have issues with the canopy fitting over the bottom battery. in the attached pic, think of this- the bottom of the canopy is normally flush with where the landing gear meets the frame, so you may just have to cut a rectangle out of the bottom of a cheapie plastic canopy and see if it holds alright. with enough tinkering, you might be able to figure out some way to secure the bottom part of the canopy.

6s or 12s regardless, you are going to LOVE that frame :YeaBaby::thumbup::noteworthy

by the way- those pics are NOT to scale so you'd want to measure your lipos (maybe make mock batteries and try fitting them on in different configs with the battery tray off)

thanks bobbybe. Gives food for thought.I'm sure we'll find a way :).I can't wait to get the HH and see.

Got the 12S set up really well today and she pulls super well. averaging 15amps,5.5c during hover and 30amps,11c during climbs :) and gears still look new :)

I think the trex landing gear has to go. Have to look for something lighter. Might stick with the Gaui ones and save 100g and will put hollow main shaft in.

Am going away for the christmas holidays so hopefully early in the new year i'll have a flight vid up.

Merry christmas and happy holidays to all
