here is ,mine with the upgrades h/18/11 motor on 14t pinion, as you can see it rubs a tad which I need to take care of yet. this would be perfect with a 13T but it will probably rub even more

Hi, I have the exact same motor and have no problems with it rubbing on anything. What is your motor rubbing on exactly ? I have the 14t pinion also. The closest thing to touching is the actual frame which is about 3/16 away. I can see how the frame is concaved at the point where the motor is the closest to it. Do you want a close up pic of it ?

Tom,

email a pic of your setup. Jschick646@aol.com
I really don't see what it rubs on but I assume the frame flexes some. but it is pretty close to the frame and the arms are real close. i will probably add a washer to the arms to see if that is it or if the frame is acctually flexing. It only rubs after a pretty hard flight. my motor is closer then 3/16 to the concave frame, problably closer to 1/16

Don't know the size of your motors, but i am using Z30A and I had to remove plastic from the frame in order for the motor to not rub.

Not much to see really stock standard 550 Shall upgrade as my experience progresses. I bought this from RC Machine (via eBay...I would have bought from ReadyHelli.com if I had known about the place earlier though) for $AU720 delivered FULLY assembled RTF including radio a Futaba 6exhp (and servos) batteries (poxy no name 11.1v 18c) BEC and a Tellebee Gyro (i believe this is the same as Align brand as theirs...not flash but will do for now) It was slapped together VERY BADLY by the fellas in Hong Kong BUT! Thanks to Finless Bob's videos it is setup beautifully now along with suggested 'upgrades' (plus Trex600 landing gear) and can hover momentarily thumbs off sticks-->

As can be seen I have made up a training undercarriage for my first few flights, one of my good mates is a welder so I asked him to knock this stand up for me (im confined to wheelchair due to motor cycle accident in '92) this makes it very easy for me to work on the heli and also test to see if blades are tracking etc (heli is clamped to stand) i have been flying on RealFlight SimG3.5 for 5 months and finally got to hover my 550 for the first time for ~4 minutes straight up on Sunday needed half a turn to make the blades track perfectly, aside from slight tail heaviness it felt alot like the simulator to me ;-) I hope to get up the local oval in the next few days (weather permitting) and take the training gear off for a few 'slow circuits'

Anywayz thanks for looking, this forum has been EXCELLENT source of info for me thanks to Bob and all the other members :-)

Kim

EDIT: I have swapped the Futaba for the Spekrum DX6 i picked up for 120 buck I just feel safer with the 2.4ghz technology...I am puting aside $$$ for a DX7 atm though ;-)

If you swap to the Revco 68T gear (0.6 mod) and Revco pinion then the larger diameter of the gear pushes the motor away from the frame and servo control rods. You'd also use a 23t pinion (I think) to get equivalent gearing to 14t with Gaui gears and that is bigger diameter so moved the motor back a bit.
I have a Z30 in a CF frame and this was a worry for me until I swapped out the Gaui gears for Revco ones.

Here are a few more Pic's of my brave Hurricane550 i wanted to share. Threw on a set of 550mm blades from a local manufacturer and cut a few Cooling holes into the FG canopy. I reduced the head speed by dropping the pitchcurve. Dont ask me about numbers. I don't own a Head speed tach jet so it's guess work. but it flies good and stable and about 7mins with 3200mah packs.

I decided to paint my spare canopy before the weather gets too cold to be able to do this in my garage.

Here are the two of them together. Not flown the second one yet (black band, orange on top, yellow on the bottom) but I think it is going to look awesome in the air.. it was inspired by a Gohbi picture on an add that was run by one of the sponsors here for a while.

I'm no expert painter (as you can see) so these are by no means flawless... but the best I can do with my minimal skills and spray paint cans.

Not the best light to take photos but you gotta work with what you get.

Veeeery nice, the GAUI CF frame looks schweeeet... if i only i had ordered mine a few weeks later. RCMachine (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Hurricane-550-RTF-RC-EP-Helicopter-w-Futaba-GAUI-h6_W0QQitemZ170159122243QQihZ007QQcategoryZ2563QQr dZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem) have them for same damn price i paid for mine WITH carbon blades AND the 1100kv motor aaaaah wellz I am still immensely happy with my Hurry as is and will have some fun pulling it apart and re-building it when i do get a CF frame ;-)

FYI. If anyone does grab a RTF Hurry from RCMachine i can tell you they dont assemble them well and YOU WILL need to do what Finless suggests in his videos out of the box they simply dont fly with the way RC Machine put them together on a good note mine was delivered within 5 days of payment...

The carbon frame seems to be very solid. They say the lower side plates are meant to break in a crash to save the main part of the frame. We will see!

My 450 and the new 550. I finally hovered the Hurricane today, and after a few adjustments on the tail it flew great in 17mph winds with gusts up to 21mph. I am very happy with this heli and can not wait to get some more stick time!!!

I have about 100 flight with stock Hurricane plastic head and frame. I was happy with it but I still wanted a little bit more power so I bought a nice combo from Flying-hobby.
