hey mike, it looks like mine, lols.......hey i am trying to figure out what packs to buy, can you post a photo of your 3300mah mounted?, randy.

Randy...I guess they all look he same until we get creative with the canopy...I have another one I want to try painting a little different...need colors I can see in the air.

The 3300 poly's fit prety good , all I had to do was make lite ply ramp on the bottom that extends to the bottom of the frame. the canopy fits a little tight on the bottom but still goes over the landing gear post... I have 2500's also but with the upgraded motor i think the 3300 are the way to go to ensure there is enough power left...they also come down just warm. When I get my eagletreev3 I'll be able to measure volts/amps/rpm's.

Let me know if you need more...

Mike

Here's the new outfit for my hurricane...Funkey Agusta 109 in Coast Guard paint scheme (pre-painted). It looks spectacular in the air, especially when the retracts go up!

hi all

Fist : HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU and a lot of nice flights from France !

I'm finishing the mounting of my H550 and I'm wondering what are you using as Rx battery (lipo or NiMh )
and where did you put the Rx battery, the receiver and the external Bec?

If some pics are available...

Thanks for your answers

Have a great 2008 year !:cheers

I just changed from using the 1,000mAh battery and the BEC to using a Dimension Engineering SportsBEC

Cheers,
Mike.

So this is my machine. It´s the first heli I have ever built and it worked quite nicely. Thanks to Bob Finless! It flies like a dream and the only disadvantage was that my big fat 5000 mAh lipos did not fit under the small stock canopy. So I trimmed larger no name glasfibre canopy to fit my needs. I used a Logo 10 landing skid to avoid a sausage dog like look.

Greetings from Germany

Marcus

Hey Madeon

What was the original Blue motor you are replacing with the Z20?

Just curious as its very small

What are the spec of it etc

Many thanks

Hey emell

How is that canopy for orientation when you are flying?

I would have thought some more colour or graphics would aid hugley when flying?

Just a thought like the vents though pretty good idea what is th emesh behind them made from?

Cheers

Hi Ben,

the canopy is great for orientation although I have to confess that I do not fly 3D yet since I am an absolute beginner.
The mesh is an aluminium wire mesh that was fixed with epoxy.

Hi Wazzer

It's the Hyperion Z-3025 10 turn 815 KV Please find more info in the link bellow

http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?cPath=393&products_id=3346 (http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?cPath=393&products_id=3346)

I got this with my Hurricane kit in September as HeliDirect didn't have at that time the stock 800 KV motor and i couldn’t wait for the stock. Anyway it worked nice with my flying skills (hovering, FF) and the 2200mah batteries I originally had with the kit.

Recently I got some new batteries 3700mah and 5000mah and this was a bit week for this set, so i got the Z20 980 with the RevCo gear, which i highly recommend.

Thanks for the reply Madedon

How did the Hyperion run temp wise?

The standard motor runs pretty hot is the hyperion any more efficient?

What are the main advantages of the Z20 over the Hyperion that you have noticed?

I'm Just trying to get a feel for the Z20 motor as i know how popular it is for this heli.

Thanks for your help

Ben

The Hyperion was running really hot (+50C burn fingers) like the stock Gaui. I have install the Z20A 980 but due to weather I have not test it in the field, yet. I hope to do so this weekend.
I did some benchmarking indoor and it was only warm (~30C) after running at Max (21000) for a min. When i did the same with the Hyperion it was burning hot.

If you can afford to get the RevCo gears (23*61X19*68) do so. I m very pleased with it.

Hi there,

I am new posting on this site. I have had a Hurricane in stock form (except short boom) since last summer. I am still a noob, but I just got two 3300mah 3s1p packs to try out, but find the heli is way nose heavy when I mount them up front. does this mean I need to go back to the long boom to solve this?

Thanks in advance for any input I can get!

One guy had fixed the balance with large packs by bolting some large washers to the tail casing - I'm not sure that I would want to but it worked for him.

I now have several flights with the Z20 980 KV.

I'm running stock gears with a 14t pinion...i have both 2500 and 3300 Polyquest 25c lipo.

The Gaui as everyone knows runsHOT...Z20 cool as a cucumber, the fan works great.

Gaui Hovering amps....20 -23...Z20 16 - 18...
Gaui 2500mah 6 mins 2000 back in 3300mah 8 - 81/2 and roughly 2400 back in, might have flown a little longer than 8 kept landing to check mah used.

Z20...6 mins only 1600 used flew a few more minutes put back about 2000..so I may be able to get a good 8 minutes of FF, 8's, stall turns, etc. The 3300 went 8 to 10 minutes no problem.

I really need to write this all down and give a more acurate report, but I can definately see the Z20 is much easier on the lipos and stays cool.

It does seem to bog a little on hard climbs outs more than the Guai..

motor and head RPM's were pretty similar...about 22,000 motor and 1850 head.

I need to check with an optical to see how acurate those speeds are..

Bat temp went to about 110 deg with both...

I'll post more when I get more flight time, but overall I like the Z20...will try a 15t pinion at some time in the future.

A guy in an German forum made a lot of tests with logger and different motor/lipos and pinions. His result was for the Z20 with 980kV you need a 15T pinion. If you need more power take the 1700kV Z20. Needs a little bit more energy but holds RPM better...

I have a 13t and 15t pinion and will eventually try the 15t, I just thought it might bog the motor even more. Once I collect enough data on the 14t, I'll try the 15t.

playing with the eagletree is really fun even if I just get to hover in the front yard. It really is nice to land and see how many amps you have left ( if you have the LCD) I have been able to fly several more minutes just knowing I still had 4 -500 more mah left...and so far I have put back almost excatly what it said was used.

There are some photos of my new upgrades and the new set of batteries (KP5000mah)... Those babies are HUGE. .... a bit heavy for this heli but anyway I have copy the suggestion of other HELIFREAK funs...

The photo settup is Z-Power Z20-980, external instalation of the tail servo, RevCo Hard one 23T, RevCo perfect Cycle 61T & 68T, CNC upgrades (Head & tail), stock 500mm blades, 90size landing gear. The next upgrade is to change the blades to 550mm .... these are looking a bit small

At this point I need to thank all of you freaks like me how are writing all your experience with the Hurricane 550 in this great forum:Bang:Bang:Bang:Bang:Bang:Bang:Bang
