Crashed my E-Stratus today.

Cause: Deans came apart
Lesson learned: When running series, tape the connectors you dont connect/disconnect regulary (eg to the battery)

Damage list;

Neu 1915/1.5Y
2 x 6s1p 5000
Bottom frame plate
2 x Alu frame support
Left & Right frame.
Main shaft
Canopy
Landing struts
Flybar

It bladestopped and fell flat down.
Alu frame support gave way and motor went straight down into the lipos
One lipo had a inch long cut, cell was wide open, not a spark or fire, just smelled bad.
When motor hit the battery it tore loose the motor mount from the frame.

Only good news is that TP has that 50% off replaced crashed packs..

Safe to say it was not my day today...

Mel,

Sorry to hear of your loss, what a bummer! I've never heard of Deans coming apart like that, they allways seem like a tight, or too tight a connector. I only use 4mm gold bullets myself.

Sounds like a good 'upgrade opportunity', maybe to a new Ion-x2 w/ actro 32-3.

Cheers,
Tom C

My fault, probably pulled in the series-cable when changing batteries and never checked the cable before I flied, did chaos and voila...

Thanks for the offer Chuck, however, Ive already order the stuff needed, it creeps under the skin when I dont have my primary heli ready for flying, so its a race against time to get it back up there :)

Ion-X2, I have an Ion as well (secondary machine), so that one I will upgrade as soon as its available.

I use the grey 3m automotive foam tape that I use to mount my gyro to hold connectors together. It has the red cellophane peel off backing. Cut a piece that will wrap the connection. Clean the connectors and stick it on. Do not remove the cellophane backing. The stuff is amazingly sticky but easy to remove by rolling it with firm thumb pressure.

I use little pieces on my servo connections as well.

Man I have always been worried about that. Maybe a thin string wrapped around the deans inbetween the wires if you have the room. Hate to ask but any pictures of the tragedy?

Bird is ready to fly today again.
